GoneByRV - Westward with Travel Uncertainty

From the site: GoneByRV - Westward with Travel Uncertainty

Writing from Papillion, NE     (Click on Pics to Enlarge)We left the Amana Colonies this morning after a very enjoyable week.  Roger and Mary Baird arrived yesterday so, of course, we had to go out to dinner.  It seems that's what RVers do a lot!  We had a very nice dinner at Ronneburg's Restaurant in Amana. Photo: Courtesy of "dpcutler" Google EarthAfter dinner we sat around the rigs for a bit as both Bill and Kris Osborne and we were planning to leave on Wednesday morning.  We'll meet up again with the Bairds in Casa Grande, AZ later this year, but the Osbornes are unsure of their travel plans which makes when we might see them again uncertain. We had planned to leave Amana between 8 and 9 AM this morning ...Read more...

From the site: TRAVEL WITH THE BAYFIELD BUNCH:)) - HAMLIN BEACH STATE PARK TO BAYFIELD ONTARIO…..NICE DRIVE & NO PROBLEMS AT THE BORDER

ROLLING OUT OF HAMLIN BEACH STATE PARK THIS MORNING In Tuesday’s post I mentioned about tornado warnings in South-western Ontario & I see this morning one did touch down in the town of Angus.  What we didn’t realize was that same storm cell was heading directly to our area of Munroe County.  Kelly had turned on the TV to check the weather & sure enough we had a storm warning flash across the screen.  Quickly checked the live radar on our computers & sure enough we were in the bulls-eye of the same fast approaching  Ontario storm.  Skies darkened, wind picked up substantially, a few drops of rain on the roof & then down it came in torrents.  Thunder roared & lightning flashed b ...Read more...

Geeks on Tour Blog - Last Rally for a While

From the site: Geeks on Tour Blog - Last Rally for a While

I hate backtracking, especially when that means traveling the highways on the south side of Chicago.  The teeth-jarring toll-charging Interstates. You see, our original plan looked like the map below where #1 is the INTO Rally in Lebanon, TN, #2 is the Escapade in Goshen, IN, #3 is a week with the Quad Cities Computer Club, and #4 is the Fleetwood Rally in Duquoin, IL, and then we would be headed west. Something happened to #4 and they combined with the Glamarama rally in Goshen … same as #2.  So, we had to drive from #2 to #3, then back to #2.  On some of the worst roads in the country.  Now we’re planning to head back west, and it would be logical to go thru #3 again, but I do not want to travel that road ...Read more...

I Love RVing - Get Ready to Roll

From the site: I Love RVing - Get Ready to Roll

Whether you are planning a weekend road trip or a longer trip, you still need to ensure that your RV is in tip-top shape, especially if you have a motorized RV. This means checking everything inside and out; and ensuring that you have everything you need. If you find something that needs to be replaced, such as a sewer hose or even a hot water heater, you can pick up what you need or drop off the RV at the service center at Jim’s RV. We have a large selection of parts and accessories for the do-it-yourselfer, and we also have a large service department for those things you can’t repair yourself. You can check some things about a week before you go; however, certain things need to be checked about a month before you go so that y ...Read more...

Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin High 88 Low 72Yesterday we drove south for about 2 hours to the Yogi Bear Jellystone Park near Fort Atkinson. We got charged for electricity which I wasn't expecting, but it was an uneventful drive. This park is very kid oriented. They seem to have a lot of activities for younger guests. There are two pools and numerous playgrounds. We are here for three nights and plan on going to Madison today. The night we left Wisconsin Downs, there was a severe thundershower warning for where we were staying. It rained hard all night, and we woke up to sunny skies. The TV stations this morning are all talking about the weather. Tornado warnings were on the news for where we are. When we woke up it was cloudy and windy, but ...Read more...

From the site: WatsonsWander - Exploring and working fulltime from our Airstream - A Day Trip to Telluride

Even though we’re staying near Durango, our first Colorado adventure was in the small mountain town of Telluride. We rarely take long day trips, but since we plan to stay in the same place for next few weeks, a wider range of exploration was easily justified. Telluride is one of the towns that we skipped over last year. We would like to stay there this year, but since there’s only one campground in town- a place that is notoriously difficult to get into- who knows if it will happen. So we decided to drive up and spend the day. The two hour drive was beautiful of course. For most of the journey we traveled through a valley next to a rushing stream. We passed many places where we would love to camp, i ...Read more...

From the site: On the Road of Retirement - Arches National Park, Moab, Utah…

We made the short drive over to Moab, Utah and pulled into Spanish Trails RV Park around lunchtime (nice that they take Passport America in June). Bad luck strikes us though and our CRV battery has died and the car won’t start. A fellow RV’er nearby offers us a jumpstart and the first order of business in Moab turns out to be buying a new battery instead of hiking right away. We found a great locally owned shop (Clarks Parts Plus) where I was able to buy an already charged battery. The fellow behind the counter said they sell a lot of batteries in town so they keep them charged. Great so with a new battery in the CRV we head over to Arches National Park where we purchase a new annual pass for $80 and drive into the park. All I ...Read more...

Thursday June 12, 2014Tahquamenon Falls State ParkPARADISE, Michigan   We begin swatting as soon as we get up.   We’re using every weapon we have including the skillet. We have an arsenal of sprays but I can’t use them in the house except for the “natural” ones which only discourage the mosquitoes for about 30 minutes before having to be reapplied.         Time to see the falls, that’s the main thing we came for. Although there seem to be several really nice trails and some great kayaking as well.  The mosquitoes seem to be worse in the house than outside. Live Laugh RV - Pure Colorado

Ahhhh…… pure Colorado …… the grill was sizzling with a couple of steaks,  the azure blue sky was touched with tuffs of white fluffy clouds, the grassy meadow was covered in yellow wildflowers, the air was crisp, clean, with just a hint of a campfire wafting in the air. Ah yes, perfect!  Well, not quite …. if only those darn little planes buzzing overhead would stop then life would have been perfect.  What happened to my quiet, remote solitude? We were camped at Lowry Campground in the White River National Forest near Keystone, Colorado at an elevation of about 9,400 feet and everything but that annoying aircraft noise was perfect. Despite the lack of water, it’s still a very pretty lake. Still pretty even with so much missing water It was one of those weeks when we didn’t leave the campground at all. Thinking of a Type B RV? Here are the questions you should ask Buying an RV is perhaps the second biggest purchase most of us will make next to our house. In some cases, with kids grown and newly retired from our jobs, it becomes our house as more and more people embrace the fulltiming style of a life on wheels. And these days, Type B RVs seem to be at the top of the motorhome popularity chart. Many who bought larger Type A or C motorhomes are downsizing, or “rightsizing,,” as some call it, for the more mobile and maneuverable Type B-style campervan motorhome. For one thing, new retirees are coming into the marketplace every day. And today’s retirees are generally healthier and more active than those who came before. ...Read more...

I haven't noted every stop or all the places we will be visiting in Wisconsin but you can see the general shape of the journey. It will take us 24 days to get from Scottsdale to Egg Harbor. After spending three weeks in Wisconsin the trip back has been left much less detailed. We have a general idea of how we'd like to make our way home, but we have no firm plan. Every kind of bait we tried was successful. The problem was he could get it out without setting off the trap. So, I finally came up with a solution. I took a small piece of hotdog and using some thin florist wire, wired the hot dog to the bait tray. He’d at least have to tug to remove it. It worked like a charm. We celebrated.
