There is nothing quite like a morning in the Mother Lode, the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, on a warm spring day.  Waking to sunshine and temps in the mid 70’s with an expected high of 84 or so is just about perfect.  Light breezes and low humidity make it even better.  This time of year, the grasses are still somewhat green, and on a Tuesday morning the traffic was even minimal. Riverton, Utah High 55 Low 34We woke up to the four letter word----Snow. It has been cold all day with wind a good part of the time. I looked on my phone and Lethbridge, Alberta was warmer than Salt Lake. I can hardly wait to get out of this cold.I took the truck to get the inspection and emission done this morning. They told me I didn't need an inspection on a 2007, but only an emission test. It passed with no problem. I then went to the DMV to get our renewal, and guess what? Everything worked as promised. So we are now good till July 2014 on both the truck and trailer. I really like it when things go the way they should. We left the warm weather in Utah to head across the Rockies and on to home near Chicago. I-70 is a challenge for any RV as it heads up to over 10,000 feet and back down the east side with a long Eisenhower tunnel in between. We were lucky to have only snow showers to make the trip interesting. The balance of the trip was cold but uneventful. Oh, yes, we were headed home in early April so that we could head off at the end of the month on a 28 day cruise to St. Petersburg Russia in May.This month we share listener ideas and our own thoughts on Wifi on the road, Pico projectors, some funny RV ideas, and new RV that will be coming to the US.As always we appreciate your comments and suggestions at navigator@rvnavigator.com ...Read more...

Let me back up a bit first. We left Burkburnett, TX on April 19. It was a beautiful day, verynlittle wind, the sun was shining and our trip to Amarillo seemed to be over in a matter of minutes. The KOA we are staying at is not as green as the one in Burkburnett (due to the climate difference) but the people are just as friendly. “Okay, guys!  We’re off!” “Today I’m going to walk Sandal Trail and you two are going to be good and wait for me.”  Bridget and Spike jump into the Perfect Tow Vehicle, happily unaware that they aren’t getting out again until we’re back at our campsite. I drive us to the Visitors’ Center, park the PTV in the shade, crack the windows, and say goodbye to the crew. Today, we decided to give Linda's toes and ankle a rest.  So we drove west on Utah Hwy 12 toward U.S. 89. We drove through Red Canyon and turned around at the pull-off and the entrance to the Dixie National Forest to start taking pictures of the red rocks at the western start of the canyon.      With a mixture of sun and clouds today, I had to wait for the sun to make its appearance to get the colors.  Even then, the rocks didn't seem quite as red as the other day when we brought the rig through.     From that first turnout, it was a short distance to the next turnout.     On the left side of the road is a trailhead for two trails - the Photo Trail and the Birdseye Trail.  The Phot ...Read more...

The short trip from Alexandria was uneventful, and we arrived at Riverview RV Parkon the banks of the Mississippi River in Vidalia, LA about 1:30 pm. The park is on the river side of the levee, and two years ago was under about 4 foot of water. With all the rain between St. Louis and Chicago, it is only a matter of time before the water levels raise here. From our rig, we had an excellent view of the “Mighty Mississippi” and watched the Riverboat Pilots push barges in both directions day and night. Friday was moving day! Since I am a GSA (Guest Service Agent) and Jerry is a Campground Attendant, he had to wait for me to finish my last day of training before we could head down to the campground. Let me preface this next part by saying that Jerry and I have never moved in our fifth-wheel without each other. Generally speaking, I take care of the inside stuff, while Jerry packs up the outside items. Then we work as a team to hook up the truck, raise the jacks and check to make sure everything is done and where it needs to be. We have a system.
