ROAMING FREE 2010 - Balloons and the Pipeline Canyon Trail

From the site: ROAMING FREE 2010 - Balloons and the Pipeline Canyon Trail

After the Fiesta Bowl Parade last weekend, we took the boys to see Grudge Match (which was pretty good), and on the way home we started to see colorful balloons in the sky over the desert. Just down the road from our park is a small airport in the middle of the desert, and we see hot air balloons almost every day.  On this night, though, there seemed to be a higher than usual number of balloons around. They also rent these parasailing contraptions powered by fan motors (they sound like an airboat in the sky!), and on this night they were all over the place! We pulled over on the side of the road so we could out and watch for awhile.  A couple of them kept buzzing right over our heads!             ...Read more...

Running Away with Doug and Nancy - Garberville CA to Calistoga CA (165 miles)

From the site: Running Away with Doug and Nancy - Garberville CA to Calistoga CA (165 miles)

We left Garberville this morning at about 9:45 a.m. It continued to be a nice drive down Hwy 101S. We stopped in at the McDonald's in Willitis, about 25 miiles from Garberville to do the Jan 1st post so that took about 1 hr. It certainly didn't take long to leave the redwood forest behind from this point and get into some rolling hills. A bit like the Okanagan area of BC. Thumbs up to a nice warm temperature!!Currently at picture time it was 20 C (70 F)(It looks like I have some kind of creepy skin disease, but I don't!!)Then, it was just clear sailing to the campground. What an amazing drive into Calistoga from Hwy 101. You come in on CA-29S all through the most amazing wine country. Of course, all the vines are "sleeping" r ...Read more...

Ray and Cindy's RV Travels - Starting South

From the site: Ray and Cindy's RV Travels - Starting South

Near St George, Utah High 56 Low 30Today we drove about 280 Miles. We are at the KOA in Leeds, Utah. It is a Coast to Coast Park, and is costing us $3.00 for one night. The hazy condition lasted about the first 125 miles, and then started to get a little warmer. We made a stop at the Cheese Factory in Beaver. It is one of our favorite places to stop as we travel through this part of Utah. They always have samples of various cheeses, some of which are quite tasty. We bought a bag of fresh cheese curds. They call it squeaky cheese, because as you eat it, it seems to make a squeaky sound as you chew, but it has to be fresh and not older. There is lots of room to turn around, so stopping is no problem. Most of the way snow still cover ...Read more...

From the site: TRAVEL WITH THE BAYFIELD BUNCH:)) - A DAY TRIP THROUGH BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY & BRAINLESS DRIVERS…REALLY? YES REALLY!!

AN OUTDOOR LUNCH SOMEWHERE ON BLM LAND NEAR BAGDAD…BAGDAD ARIZONA THAT IS With my telescope Wednesday night I was able to see an additional 2 moons surrounding the planet Jupiter bringing the total to 4 altogether.  With the cooler night air here in Arizona the atmosphere is very stable making for some great stargazing.  And not a lot of light pollution here in little Congress as opposed to many heavily populated areas. From the site: Living The Dream... - Saturday, December 28, 2013 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

Ahhh....it's nice to be back to the wide open skies of Arizona! Although it was basically a cloudy day, the sun did try to get through later in the afternoon...we were accused of bringing the clouds back with us from BC!We basically spent the morning getting settled back in and then managed to get out for a walk. I spent the later part of the afternoon getting caught up on our blog while Steve read.At 5:00, we went over to Earl and Allison's for cocktails in the late afternoon sun...And then headed inside for a wonderful home-made Mexican dinner......of Tamales, Tostadas and Salad.... YUM!We rounded off a great evening playing Rummikub...After about five games, we called it a night...Earl and I were the winners this evening. RV Travel - Products for recreational vehicles. - Keep rodents from nesting in your engine compartment

From the site: RV Travel - Products for recreational vehicles. - Keep rodents from nesting in your engine compartment

Products for recreational vehicles. Whenever you park your RV anywhere from a couple of nights to longer terms, you run the risk of squirrels and other rodents building nests in your engine compartment.    Several methods have been tried to keep them out - you can't effectively seal off the engine compartment from them coming in - including mothballs, powdered chlorinated cleansers, and wire scrub pads.   But here is a possible solution - something you wouldn't likely think of - that may be the best of all methods. And even if it doesn't work effectively enough, you can use it for another purpose.   Curious? Solar-powered LED String Lights! Huh? you say. Here's the story. Animals will not nest where there ar ...Read more...

goin' RV Boondocking - Working Out Working Through the Winter...

From the site: goin' RV Boondocking - Working Out Working Through the Winter...

Finally dealt with the electrical gremlin in the truck... I hope... and it didn't cost a dime. With nothing changed, and no total failures to reveal the bad parts I made another small search for phantom loads and found zilch. The alternator continues to produce volts and amps... just like it should... So... I finally surrendered to the simplest fix and replaced the pair of batteries.Should have just done that passing through back in October. The good thing about buying good batteries or batteries from a good place, I guess, is if they do go bad there's a good warranty. Costco warrantied the batts 100%. All it cost was the time and diesel to run over there. With the fresh batteries in place the only remaining "symptom"... just an oddly long r ...Read more...

The Roadrunner Chronicles - The Stairs near Silver Lake and L.A.

From the site: The Roadrunner Chronicles - The Stairs near Silver Lake and L.A.

We have eaten a few vegan meals in the last few days because Adam and Melissa only eat that kind of food.  We are always up for something different so, we were glad to go to lunch in Silver Lake and eat at Flore Vegan Restaurant recommended by nephew Nate. Then we joined him and Angela and their son Jacob for a walk around famous Echo Park.  It recently has undergone a $45M renovation and is quite nice. From there we took a short drive around the lake and then through some of the hilly neighborhoods. We parked the cars and set out on a hike through residential areas and found a number of stairs through them.  The day could not have been more beautiful.Music Box Steps is the site of the 1932 Academy Award winning short film by La ...Read more...

live. work. dream. - Where Not to Park Your RV in Humboldt County California

From the site: live. work. dream. - Where Not to Park Your RV in Humboldt County California

It’s always fun to journey back to Northern California’s Humboldt County to see friends but it sure puts a dent in our budget. Not only does it take a lot of extra fuel to visit this remote coastal location but there are limited options for staying there in a decent RV park. Full-hookup RV parks in Humboldt are expensive and range from $35 to $45 a night. When we were trying to find somewhere affordable to stay in Eureka or Arcata, we first consulted our Passport America Guide, our go-to handbook for cheap RV parks. Our old standby, Redneck Acres (sorry, Redwood Acres) is now a Passport America and Escapees Member park. Thankfully we could combine both discounts and ended up paying $30 a night, the cheapest RV park rate in the c ...Read more...
