The MoHo and Other Traveling Tales - Oh What to DO?

From the site: The MoHo and Other Traveling Tales - Oh What to DO?

Current Location: Tulare, CA, sunny and 96 degrees F Settled down for the evening in hot, dry, sunny Tulare, California. We began our day in Lee Vining, on the east side of the Sierras, and treated ourselves to an early dawn crossing of Tioga Pass, through Yosemite and down the mountain to the Great Central Valley. A family event called Mo to this area and Abby and I are comfortable in the MoHo at Sun and Fun RV Park, with our Passport America discount, air conditioner going full blast.  Ahh…yes…time to process photos and write. Trying to come up with something to do in Tulare, California isn’t very high on the agenda, at least not on my agenda.  I am looking forward to our journey back north tomorrow morning ...Read more...

Metamorphosis Road - Sumpter, OR: Historic, Beautiful and Wild!

From the site: Metamorphosis Road - Sumpter, OR: Historic, Beautiful and Wild!

Our drive from Burns to Sumpter was gorgeous. Heading North on hwy 395 we passed through the Divine Canyon Scenic Corridor where jagged lava spires skirted in Ponderosa Pine followed us through the curves. Turning East on hwy 26 at John Day we passed through rolling green hills edged with snow capped peaks. Then North on hwy 7 into the trees again we rolled into the historic gold mining town of Sumpter.Downtown Sumpter, OR.Sumpter is tiny, about 200 people live here, and many of the buildings on Main St. wear For Sale signs. It's on the Elkhorn Scenic Byway and nestled against the Elkhorn Mountain Range. There's plenty of mining history to explore here and outdoor recreation in many forms: primarily ATV and snowmobiling, but hikin ...Read more...

Running Away with Doug and Nancy - Doyles NL to Antigonish NS (236 Kms=146 Miles)

From the site: Running Away with Doug and Nancy - Doyles NL to Antigonish NS (236 Kms=146 Miles)

We pulled out of the Grand Codroy RV-Tent Camp Park at 9:00 a.m. We needed to be at the ferry terminal 2 hours before the ship is due to leave dock. It just leaves a bit of time to waste but that's okay. There is an area off the western end of the Codroy Valley where the winds come off the southern end of the Long Range Mtns and Table Mountain at near hurricane force. It is called the Wreckhouse. The winds have been known to reach 150 km/ph. This area is, basically just about 8 kms from the Port aux Basques ferry terminal. The winds are extremely high and in the early 1900's they were even known to blow railway cars off the old narrow gauge tracks. The railway had to employ a local to warn them of the high winds. Today, the t ...Read more...

Gypsy Turtles - Note to Self: Crank Down the Antenna Before Leaving the Campground

Mouse Update: I’d like to thank everyone who left comments and/or offered tips on Facebook regarding catching Mr. Mouse. I am happy to report we won the war…finally. In the end, we chose not to use the glue traps. I had read a few reviews that said they could get out of them and I had visions of Mr. Mouse getting sticky stuff all over our stuff. Every kind of bait we tried was successful. The problem was he could get it out without setting off the trap. So, I finally came up with a solution. I took a small piece of hotdog and using some thin florist wire, wired the hot dog to the bait tray. He’d at least have to tug to remove it. It worked like a charm. We celebrated. And we slept like babies that night :) Recently, I ...Read more...

........Rolling in a RV - Wheelchair Traveling...... - Ganondagan State Historic Site

From the site: ........Rolling in a RV - Wheelchair Traveling...... - Ganondagan State Historic Site

In the 1600s nearly 150 longhouses stood on this property, making Ganondagan  the largest Seneca town. The Senacas were keepers of the western border of the lands belonging to the confederation of Iroquois people. They controlled traffic that passed through which was very important for the fur trade. In 1687 the village was attacked by the French who wanted to eliminate competition from the Iroquois trappers. The Senecas never returned to live in the burnt out village although they did use the fields for crops.    A short video is shown in the visitor center. Exhibits are minimal. The main attraction is a reconstructed longhouse.   The visitor center is accessible. The longhouse is located in a field about 3 ...Read more...

Life on the Open Road - I Made It to Oregon!

From the site: Life on the Open Road - I Made It to Oregon!

But first, on the way out of Weed, we stopped at the Living Memorial Sculpture Garden north of town. It's a sad memorial dedicated to veterans of all conflicts. This one was beautiful - entitled "Coming Home."I'm not sure how the flute player and dancers relate, but I joined in.Before I left, I noticed one of the statues was trying to hitchhike out of there. My first stop in Oregon was Klamath Falls. We took a little hike along the river to see the falls. There they are! They might have been better before they built the dam.The trail was pretty scenic.A leaky wooden pipe ran from the dam down to an old generator. It looked like a flower garden. And there was lots of wildlife along the way. A turtle sunning himself -Cormorants posing nicely ...Read more...

RV Days with Jessica and Harry - It’s Been a Long Time!

From the site: RV Days with Jessica and Harry - It’s Been a Long Time!

Location: Catskill, NY (High 76, Low 52) This has definitely been my most sporadic blog summer since I started my blog back in 2010. It’s been a pretty busy summer so far, but most days we’re busy with just the normal stuff of daily life.     The biggest event of the past couple weeks was our trip north to the Adirondacks last weekend for the half marathon in Lake Placid.       The first order of business was for Harry to put on his “techie person” hat at my mother’s house.     On Saturday we drove over to Lake Placid to pick up our materials for the half.               We ate lunch at a restaurant with an outdoor café and a re ...Read more...
