We drove a whopping sixteen miles out into the desert to BLM land and one of the 14-day free camping areas. We went to the site we had picked out for our Boondocking Rally and, fortunately, the big wide open area didn't have any other rigs.

Since we really enjoy visiting National Wildlife Refuges we decided to revisit the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. I say revisit because I have been to this refuge many, many times in my past. While living in College Station a professor friend of mine taught a graduate level Terrestrial Ecosystems Class. This class also had an optional field lab with it and my friend who taught it invited me along on the field trips so I could assist him with the naturalist part of his class.

All the pools, except one for the RV'ers (which is a little one under cover) were empty. These pools are natural spring waters and are drained ech night and refilled each morning. It only takes about 3 hours to fill one of these big pools. This morning, it actually looked quite pretty.
