RV Camping Blog - Wise water usage the key to extended boondocking

From the site: RV Camping Blog - Wise water usage the key to extended boondocking

In last week’s post, Power to the people: Upgrade options for your electrical system, I wrote about various ways to increase your electrical capacity while dry-camping (boondocking). Now we will move on to drinking water, that natural resource that will limit your consecutive boondocking days unless you are Moses and can strike a stone with [...] ...Read more...

Travel with Kevin and Ruth - Well that was a busy day!

From the site: Travel with Kevin and Ruth - Well that was a busy day!

It started at around 8:10am. Knock, knock, knock. Okay, so I go answer the door. It's a guy from the restaurant saying they have no water. I walk over and check our faucet. Nope, no water there either! That meant the whole campground had no water. This is not a good start to the day.Click here to read more... ...Read more...

Man In The Maze - Diesel fried chicken

From the site: Man In The Maze - Diesel fried chicken

The long days of driving are already taking a toll on us. It’s not fun spending all day in the car, and as Emma grows into a teenager she is finding the car rides less agreeable. When she was younger we could drop her in the backseat with a few books and not hear a peep for hours. Now she has a Nintendo DS, several books, a bag of snacks, an iPod, and a slew of other distractions, and she’s bored. I am thinking that we should make some effort to avoid having to do this rush-rush drive next year, by leaving earlier. It won’t be easy because of our schedules, but the alternative is slow torture by concrete Interstate. Perhaps because of our lack of motivation to do the same thing today that we did yesterday,we got a late ...Read more...

In the Direction of Our Dreams - Donuts, Pastries and Pottery

From the site: In the Direction of Our Dreams - Donuts, Pastries and Pottery

Tuesday May 14, 2013Site 19, Davis Bayou CampgroundGulf Islands National SeashoreOcean Springs, Mississippi       It’s our last day here at Davis Bayou.   We are leaving Mississippi tomorrow and realize we haven’t put the state on our map.  This is the first state we have added in the past 19 months.  Putting this little sticker on the map really makes us feel like we have our life back at least for a while.  Although David looks very serious about its placement, it’s a grand symbolic occasion.         To celebrate we’re going to spend the morning walking around the town of Ocean Springs beginning at Tato-nuts which I later find out was originally a SPUDNUTS ...Read more...

Polly checks out a historic display at Emigrant Springs Not a “destination”, but a convenient and green stop along I-84 in Oregon Link to campground here: Emigrant Springs State Heritage Area, Pendleton, OR Link to map location here: Emigrant Springs State Heritage Area, Pendleton, OR Site Quality = 3/5Decent, but not spectacular sites here. They are all paved back-ins, with a selection of either full hookups (18 sites total -> 30 amp/water/sewer) or tent (32 sites -> no hookups) and on-site picnic table and fire-pit. Decent separation, although some are closer than we’d like plus good all-round green and trees everywhere. Biggest ding is unlevel sites (ours required all the levelers we ...Read more...

Running Away with Doug and Nancy - Palm Springs to Los Osos CA

From the site: Running Away with Doug and Nancy - Palm Springs to Los Osos CA

What an amazing drive that is, between Palm Springs and the Los Angeles basin. I have never seen that many wind turbines before, ever. Check this out:    It is like a wall of them....  I was wondering something, and maybe someone could enlighten me on this point. Why is it, that with all this amazing sunshine here, don't I see more of the homes through these valleys with solar panels on their roofs??? I mean, really, isn't that just "wasting" potential energy? Just a thought... Driving along and minding my own business and I hear the unmistakable "roar" of a Lamborghini coming up behind me. Now, this is impressive (my hearing included) because the van isn't the most quiet environment to be i ...Read more...

Americana the Beautiful - My Favorite Regrets

From the site: Americana the Beautiful - My Favorite Regrets

By the time you read this, I’ll (hopefully) be mere hours away from my parents’ front door. And that also means the end of this year-long cross-country RV roadtrip. [insert dramatic music] So that brings us to ranking my experiences, sharing any regrets, and answering for the curious. A Few of My Favorite Things Hours of driving brings hours of changing landscape. Sure, the desert can last a long (LONG) time, but its transition to-and-from mountains or plains is wondrous. Instead meeting animals in cartoons or in captivity, I encountered them in real life. Sometimes they’re larger than expected, other times tinier–regardless, they’re real and regal. Being creative daily, making the decisions to plan an exc ...Read more...

WatsonsWander - Exploring and working fulltime from our Airstream - Madden Peak Road, Colorado

From the site: WatsonsWander - Exploring and working fulltime from our Airstream - Madden Peak Road, Colorado

We rolled into Colorado about a week ago and spent the first two nights at a small RV park in Cortez. I didn’t take any pictures of the park, and don’t really have anything to say about it, good or bad. It just was. It served it’s purpose and that’s all that matters. That purpose was cleaning. Over the past few months a ridiculous amount of sand and dirt has accumulated in the airstream, and while I do lots of daily cleaning and vacuuming, without full hook-ups it’s hard to really clean. With plenty of water to use I scrubbed all parts of the bathroom, cleaned out the fridge, took everything out of the kitchen cabinets and wiped them down, cleaned the stove and vent hood really well, and vacuumed like a ma ...Read more...

RV Life On Wheels - Lousy Weather = Lousy Blog???

From the site: RV Life On Wheels - Lousy Weather = Lousy Blog???

The weather continues to not be good here... cold and wet again today. There is a promise of better things tomorrow, and we can only hope! Well, I did watch Game 7 last night, along with Judy, Kristina, and Chris... even had my Leaf Sweater on, but it did not work. Seems the Team simply ran out of gas half way through the 3rd period. I saw a great comment in the Toronto Star today that stated, "Astronaut Chris Hatfield, and the Toronto Maple Leafs, both came down to earth yesterday!" Well said! Kristina had to go and see her Dr. today, as her due date is this Friday. Judy and I were the designated care providers for Gwenny while she was away... Ended up spending the afternoon and dinner with them at the house. Oh well, Go Sens Go! ...Read more...
