OUR NEWELL ADVENTURE - Until Next Time, and Recovery

From the site: OUR NEWELL ADVENTURE - Until Next Time, and Recovery

Monday felt like so many other get away days as we said our "until next times" to our daughters, Sharon and Kate, their significant others, Rod and Nick, and my grandson, Elijah. We didn't get to spend as much time with them as we would have liked due to our initiation into the workforce here at TVC* beginning the day they arrived, but the time we did spend with them was intense, fun packed, and memorable, so I guess in the overall scheme of things it worked out just right for everyone.  We were up by 7 am, having breakfast outside by 8, then getting our last hugs and kisses until Christmas.  The kids headed down the road a little after 9 am, and were home safe and sound by 5:45 pm.  I love the drive from here down HWY 395, a ...Read more...

Weaselmouth - Airstream Cutting Board Sink Cover – we’re sharing the love!

From the site: Weaselmouth - Airstream Cutting Board Sink Cover – we're sharing the love!

Since moving to Whidbey Island, we’ve been introduced to a whole slew of talented folks. We’ve met carpenters, farmers, and weavers (Oh my!). But the most talented are Janae and Kelly at Turnco Wood Goods. Soon after meeting them, we realized they had the aesthetic and the know-how to create some really awesome things for the Airstream, so we started a conversation which we hope you’ll be interested in!We do a ton of cooking in the trailer. Roasts, bread, whole chickens… You name it, we’ve tried it. And the one thing I’ve had trouble finding is a large cutting board that fits our space. It’s especially hard when we’re both prepping — we need two large boards, which are obviously hard to ...Read more...

BILL and NANCY - Our First Hike to Natural Bridge — Thursday, July 3, 2014

From the site: BILL and NANCY - Our First Hike to Natural Bridge — Thursday, July 3, 2014

We decided today we would hike to Natural Bridge. Click HERE for a nice PDF map of Natural Bridge State Park. We were at the parking lot near the Gift Shop by 8am.  The weather gets warm in the afternoon, so we wanted to be done before then.  Also, the Skylift doesn’t run until 10am, so that means less people up on Natural Bridge early in the morning!!We decided to hike The Original Trail (#1) up and hike Balanced Rock Trail (#2) down.  Our reason was that The Original Trail is said to be the shortest and easiest route to the Bridge.  Balanced Rock Trail is said to be the steepest trail so it seem a good idea to do that one down;o)) Click on any photo to enlarge or hover your mouse on any photo for a ...Read more...

A Satisfying Retirement - Leads To A Satisfying Life - And So It Begins

From the site: A Satisfying Retirement - Leads To A Satisfying Life - And So It Begins

The extended RV trip that prompted the summer sabbatical from the blog's regular posting schedule is underway. We are in Flagstaff, a good place just a few hours from home, to finalize the route and first week or so of the trip. Wednesday morning we are on our way to the Zion National Park area.I would be terribly remiss in not thanking all those who left such heartfelt comments after I announced the partial suspension of this blog, with a final decision coming upon our return in September. I knew Satisfying Retirement has a loyal group of readers, but the strength of its impact and importance of what we all discuss here was brought forcefully home to me by your words. While I am not prepared to say with all certainty I will ...Read more...

GoneByRV - Dakota Discovery Museum

From the site: GoneByRV - Dakota Discovery Museum

From Mitchell, SD     (Click on Pics to Enlarge)On our final day in Mitchell, SD we drove over to the campus of Dakota Wesleyan University to tour the Dakota Discovery Museum.  The museum has been welcoming guests for 75 years. Today's exhibits show artifacts from Native Americans dating from the 1600's to the pioneers of the region up until the 1930's.Many interesting exhibits are on display. This is a typical "claims" cabin of the era when settlers came to this territory to establish their land claims. Notice the very small size. The museum also houses four art galleries featuring works by Harvey Dunn, James Earle Fraser, Oscar Howe, and Charles Hargens.  A large area is devoted to Charles Hargens and his actual studio ...Read more...

RV Honeymoon - Day 8, 9 & 10 // Long Island, The Hamptons

From the site: RV Honeymoon - Day 8, 9 & 10 // Long Island, The Hamptons

Combining a few days for this post! Day 8 // Driving Day. We left New Jersey for our drive out to Long Island and ultimately The Hamptons. We had a longerish drive, around 5 hrs in total. When we took off, we didn’t exactly know where our next campground was going to be as all the places we had called were sold out or only took walk up reservations. But, that is half the fun of it all – right?! View of NYC coming up to it! Anyway, we had to drive through Manhattan to get here which was ZERO fun. ZERO. First of all, we had upwards of $115 in tolls for the world’s shittiest roads. I legitimately felt like I was going to fly out of the RV as we hit pot hole, after pot hole, after pot hole. I had to go lay down ...Read more...

Riveted - Bicycling Around Port Townsend

From the site: Riveted - Bicycling Around Port Townsend

This afternoon we took a break and rode our bikes over to Fort Worden State Park to check it out. It's nice...seems like a great place to stay...but I like our spot here at the marina way better. But that's just me. You might prefer Fort Worden. Full hookups, beach right there, a cute little laundromat, a lighthouse. In fact, you'd definitely like it better. Forget I told you about the marina campground at all. :) The fog came in and hung around for a little bit this morning, but it's back to being sunny and clear and perfect now.... ...Read more...

News from Travels with Dave and Elaine Violette - Painting the gutters

From the site: News from Travels with Dave and Elaine Violette - Painting the gutters

Red Bay AL We are on the downhill side of our service work here in Red Bay, with the last major task completed today. Yesterday the new rain gutters were installed and today they were painted to match our motorhome. Apparently Tiffin's paint bays were busy because they sent us to a commercial paint shop in town. This small shop, Red Bay Body Shop at 209 3rd Ave SW, close to the Tiffin factory entrance, has two long bays so they can handle several rigs at once. At the rear of the right bay there is a set of fixed raised platforms that are close enough to allow working directly on the top of the motorhome without having to use ladders. There is probably 12-15 inches of side clearance on each side. The paint shop is set up with fixed scaff ...Read more...

RV Tire Safety - Is it OK to Replace Bias tires with radials

From the site: RV Tire Safety - Is it OK to Replace Bias tires with radials

My 25' 1985 trailer has a plate on the left front street side that indicates 7.00 X 15 and 45 psi. D range, I think.Right now, there are Roadkings LT on it. I inherited the Airstreem from my aerospace engineer Dad and know based on 5+ years it's time to replace them So, what manufacture would you recommend and what pressure? GVWR is 6,800#, axles are 3,200lbs. I believe the original tires were bias.It really isn't difficult to find a new radial tire for your RV but there are a few basic steps needed. You gave the GVWR and Axle rating but made no mention of the actual load on each tire. There are a number of posts showing that the load is seldom split evenly between axles or evenly side to side. There are worksheets available to help you ...Read more...
