Gypsy Journal RV Travel Newspaper - Time To Simplify

From the site: Gypsy Journal RV Travel Newspaper - Time To Simplify

I’ve been vexed by technical gremlins the last few days and it’s time to simplify. I’m about to get a map, a compass, and a tire pressure gauge and throw a whole bunch of electronic gadgets away. When we left the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa I already knew our basic route, north on Interstate 75 to Interstate 10, west to US Highway 231, and then north to Dothan, Alabama. 375 miles, give or take a potty break or two along the way. However, my Rand McNally RV GPS had other ideas. It wanted to route us west into the Tampa area and then north on US Highway 19 for 224 miles to Interstate 10 and then into Georgia and on to Dothan. It would have saved us maybe 30 miles, but a lot of it would be stop and go traffic through ...Read more...

Oh, the Places They Go! - Camping in Clark’s Dry Lake

From the site: Oh, the Places They Go! - Camping in Clark’s Dry Lake

Borrego Springs, CA As previously mentioned in our last blog, we mixed-up our reservation dates at the nearby state park.  This actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as we enjoyed two nights  of dry camping and met some fellow bloggers out near Clark’s Dry Lake. After some relaxing the first morning to enjoy our desert view, we decided to take a short hike to the west and climb up a nearby hill to check out the view. Looking back to the east. Can you see our motorhome in the center right? A little help from the zoom lens was needed Right behind us, as we checked out the view to the east, is the “famous” rock snake. Some very creative soul took the time to gather many rocks and create a large ima ...Read more...

It was another trip to the RC airfield for Steve this morning...Red couldn't stand it any more so built his model plane yesterday. He wasn't going to build it until after they moved into their new Toy Hauler. Red wanted to take it there to see if one of the experienced flyers there would help him try it out. So they headed off at 9:30. As usual, Steve took a bunch of pictures.Red with his test pilot Wayne...Wayne spent quite a bit of time fine tuning the controller to make sure all the control surfaces and motor on the plane operated to his liking for a test flight...A final hug...just in case it doesn't look like this after the flight... Take off... Inverted...Coming in for a landing...Success!Some of Wayne's many planes...Hand l ...Read more...

    It's about time. - It’s The Pictures

Our Location today is Moore Haven, Florida, U.S.A.Last night the temperatures here in southern Florida dropped to the mid 40’s so in order for us to sleep comfortably we needed to run the electric cube heater. For Kathy that didn’t seem to bother her but for me it caused me to have another one of those wakeful nights. We were both up by 8:00 but even though it seemed brighter outside there was a greyness around us. Opening the curtains we could barely see the trailer just over twenty feet away through the fog. As we ate breakfast the sun started burning the moisture from the air. The Weather Channel showed the temperature had not quite reached 50 F (10 C) and would be slow to become comfortable outside. We settled in at the comp ...Read more...

Me and My Dog ...and My RV - Leaving tomorrow - maybe...

From the site: Me and My Dog ...and My RV - Leaving tomorrow - maybe...

Katie and I are still here at Imperial Dam LTVA in the Quail Hill campground.  We like it here, but it's time to head back to Quartzsite and do some VISITING!  There are lots of people I want to connect or re-connect with who are already there.  The Big Tent is halfway done and before we know it, people will start leaving that area, so we need to get there soon. Jeanne and Riley left here last Tuesday and are now at Quartzsite.  We tried to visit Judy of Travels with Emma at the Imperial Nat'l Wildlife Refuge.  Jeanne actually stayed here one extra day so we could do that, but unfortunately it rained a lot on Monday night, and left the roads questionable on the way into where Judy is.  We drove along muddy ...Read more...

We set out yesterday morning at about 10:30am for what we figured would be a three or four hour hike. Turned out that we were gone for five and a half hours! Pretty quiet for the morning part of the hike, and when we got to the bottom of the canyon at the base of Mexico's highest waterfall, we were the only ones there.Click here to read more... ...Read more...

From the site: Airstream Moho-A-Go-Go - We Found Them!! The Best Oysters In The Whole World!

Cavendish National Park Day 67    August 15 Since we were up early enough to enjoy the wonderful sunrise, we weren’t too upset when it started to rain. Prince Edward Island was throwing everything it had at us. First it was the mighty wind, now the rain and cold! Rainy day on Prince Edward Island… Today we drove part of the Central Coast Drive, otherwise known as Green Gables Shore. Apparently there was some connection to a well known Canadian author and her well known to Canadians book, “Anne of Green Gables.” Not being Canadian, I had no clue about this what-so-ever. Still raining…still pretty… More sublime beauty… What I did have a clue about, was oysters. I love oysters. We stopped ...Read more...

From the site: Box Canyon Blog .com - Renewal In Diversity: From Mountains Cold and White, to Deserts Lush and Green

After streaking 84 mph across a winterized version of the awe-inspiring, otherworldly State of Utah yesterday, we rolled into one of the most panoramic boondock sites ever—literally a 360 degree, 3-D, Triple AAA, 5 star, Sir-Real Postcard. I'm looking drooling out Goldie's Imax Windows now, as morning light sheds hues of gold and pink on purple mountain and red rock majesty, wondering why in God's name we have not camped here before? It's not like we didn't know about it; we've drooled over this far-view, deeply canyon-ed, 4 bar patch of real estate before. Yet, for reasons that now escape my growing shorter short-term memory bank, always chose a camp down the road a few miles, closer to Zion's "Neare ...Read more...
