- California’s Mill Creek: Sierra Mountain High

From the site: - California’s Mill Creek: Sierra Mountain High

Mill Creek is a tiny residential town tucked into the Sierra Nevada Mountains at an elevation at 4,737 feet. When you are ready to immerse yourself in the wonders of Lassen Volcanic National Park this quiet enclave, only six miles from park headquarters, is your choice. Lassen Peak, 18 miles to the north, and Mt. St. Helens are the only volcanoes in the contiguous United States to erupt in the 20th century—a trail leads to the top of the cone created in 1915.   Planning a visit? Stay at Childs Meadow RV Resort. The park offers numerous recreational opportunities including over 150 miles of hiking trails, backpacking, fishing and hydrothermal features such as nearby Bumpass Hell that is explored with a 1.5-mile trail. - Towing 4 Down vs. Dolly/Trailer

From the site: - Towing 4 Down vs. Dolly/Trailer

Many motor home owners tow their dinghy four wheels down or employ a dolly, two wheels down. The four down requires a mounting plate adaptor to be installed on the front of the vehicle.  This adaptor plate connects in two places to a tow bar that is attached to the motor home’s trailer hitch. The towed vehicle’s steering must be free of any locks so it can move freely. Due to the caster and camber designed into vehicle front ends, the towed vehicle will naturally follow the direction of the tow.   Connecting up and disconnecting is quite quick with this method and can be accomplished in minutes. Towing with only two wheels on the road uses a short two wheel trailer called a dolly. The front wheels (in some few cas ...Read more...

On the eve of the sacred fourteenth day, Mr Ranger Sir sayeth unto us, "Your fortnight of coolness and shade in Madera Canyon expires tomorrow. Go, and Godspeed. Egads, man. So, in the midst of a prolonged heatwave, Bobbie and I descended the Mount. Outgunned by a calendar and thermometer, I grumbled that it was time to bid Arid-zona farewell and pointed Goldie homeward… sort of.This year we were going to explore our way home to Lovely Ouray across New Mexico's back roads instead of Utah. We don't get to New Mexico much anymore… a little bit of sage and wind and bleakness goes a long way with a camera toter. But I have always loved the funk, rust, and culture of olden settlements, each a movie set for Grape ...Read more...

WE ARE THE CARNEYS! - Zion National Park is #1 with our family!

From the site: WE ARE THE CARNEYS! - Zion National Park is #1 with our family!

We are amidst National Park Week so it’s the perfect time to reminisce about some of the amazing National Parks we were able to visit on our trip around the USA. If you haven’t made  your summer plans yet, think about heading to Zion National Park in Utah. It was our family’s favorite because of the beautiful hiking we were able to do! Personal vehicles are not allowed throughout Zion in the summertime, so you will have to park at the Visitor’s  Center and board one of these free shuttle buses. We also learned a lot about the park through the narration on board, which was a bonus. There are approximately 18 different hiking trails to choose from here in Zion.  The three that we chose to do in our fi ...Read more...

From the site: Living The Dream... - Wednesday, April 15 to Saturday, April 18, 2015 (Monck Provincial Park, Quilchena, BC)

Wednesday, April 15th...our first official day of work at Monck Provincial Park! We were up bright and early (first time in a very long time that we were woken up by an alarm clock!) and with a thermos of coffee, snacks, lunch and bottled water, we were in the golf cart and on our way down to loop 1. Doug and Sue led the way in the Park truck. It was a gorgeous, but chilly start to the day. We started work on the popular lake-front sites...We load the needles onto the tarp and then the four of us each take a corner and dump it into the box of the truck....Here are a couple of before and after pictures. Doug and Steve worked on this site......while Sue and I worked on the one across the road...Steve has had a bad back since his late 30's so w ...Read more...

The Fit RV - Hurray! We’re Two!

From the site: The Fit RV - Hurray! We’re Two!

This week, The Fit RV celebrated its second anniversary – if you can call getting the bill for another year’s hosting charges “celebrating”.  Since neither Stef nor I knew exactly how to celebrate the second anniversary of a website, I did what any sane, rational 21st century human would do. I Googled: “how to celebrate the second anniversary of our website” And then clicked on the first thing that came up. 5 easy steps. Great. Be conscious of the gift expectations for a second anniversary. Cotton is the traditional second anniversary gift. Purchase the gift. Decide whether you’d like to purchase your gift as a couple, or whether you’d rather give each other a surprise. Arrange a break. ...Read more...

I did it, I drove through San Francisco up 19th to the Golden Gate Bridge and over. We arrived in Marin RV park shortly after. Here I will give a brief review for any RVers who are interested. It is a nice if modest park. Adequate space for most any coach and plenty of room for 4 slideouts. FHU including cable which we have not hooked up. Location is wonderful. It is a 10 minute walk to the ferry to Downtown San Francisco, no need to drive and park. Less than 30 minutes to Berkeley in light weekend traffic and under an hour to Walnut Creek. Tourist attractions along the coast are not more than an hour away.Having said all that we are delighted to be here. We have been very busy with people since we got here. First, on Thursday we had dinner ...Read more...

goldenshoe RV trip - Getting old

From the site: goldenshoe RV trip - Getting old

We are underway again for another family event and rally.  Our first stop was at the Peach Queen RV Park in Jemison, AL.  This is our second visit in as many months.  It is a full hookup park with WIFI very close to the interstate. While it is a good place to stop along I65, the reason for this stop was not so much for convenience as fixing an error on my part from last time we were here.  When we checked in the first time, the staff asked for our cell phone number, so they could call us should we leave something behind when we leave.  We thought this was a bit odd and certainly no other campground had asked us this before.  I have never left anything behind except a water splitter connection or two. When we le ...Read more...
