The Outer Harbor Trail runs for about 4 miles alongside Fuhrmann Blvd. At the northern end is Lighthouse Point Park, the site of a 1833 stone lighthouse which is the oldest building in Buffalo. Near the south end is a beach area - no swimming allowed due to concerns about contamination. The Greenway Nature Trail runs along the waterfront for about a mile. The land between the two trails was an industrial area and dumping ground for dirt dredged from the inner harbor. An extensive environmental cleanup was required to open the area as a park.
