Acadia National Park is pieced together with land donated from people who owned homes on Mt Desert Island back in the early 1900's. One person who owned a large chunk of land that is now in the park was John Rockefeller. Rockefeller built a system of roads through his property so he would have a private place to ride his carriages since the automobile was taking over roads everywhere else.Rockefeller loved driving his carriages and wanted a place that cars weren't allowed so he could ride as much as he wanted.Now days the rest of us can use Rockefeller's carriage roads and take a ride along the same roads.It was a nice peaceful way to see the interior of the park! ...Read more...
