From the site: WatsonsWander - Exploring and working fulltime from our Airstream - Zion N.P.- Hiking to The Top of The World & Other Adventures

We knew getting a spot at the first-come-first serve campground in Zion National Park during spring break would be difficult.  We had a plan though, and it seemed like a good plan. Unfortunately, as plans sometimes do, this one fell short. The plan went something like this: Monday evening- pack up Airstream, dump tanks at Lone Rock, drive to Walmart in Page, spend the night. Parking lot camping at its finest Tuesday morning- leave bright and early, drive 2ish hours and arrive at Zion just in time to snag the site of some departing family who needed to drive back home to Minnesota or wherever. The plan fell short on two counts. First, early for us is like 9am. Second, we underestimated the popularity of Zion as a spring break ...Read more...

Riveted - Ike Kinswa State Park

From the site: Riveted - Ike Kinswa State Park

Tomorrow we're heading to Ike Kinswa State Park to meet some friends for the weekend. Apparently it's only an hour and half from Portland (in Washington state), but I'd never even heard of it until we made this reservation. From the CampsitePhotos.com website, this is what our spot looks like: Not too shabby, huh? We haven't been out in the Airstream since December when we returned from our four-month trip across the country and it'll be great to be back! In April I think we'll be taking the Airstream down to George Sutton RV for some tweaks and fixes, then... ...Read more...

Weaselmouth - 100 Things Challenge Spring Cleaning: Part 1

From the site: Weaselmouth - 100 Things Challenge Spring Cleaning: Part 1

We have too much stuff. Again. That might seem odd considering how we live, but it’s true. It’s hard to stop collecting things or buying shiny objects, but when you have a small space, that “stuff”, and the space it takes up, is really amplified. Two years ago when moved into the Airstream fulltime, we took the 100 Thing Challenge, and we’ve definitely tried to keep that pace (if we buy a new pair of shoes, one has to go), but as we moved to a climate with seasons, we needed to add more clothes, and we needed things like a generator, several umbrellas and more blankets. Not to mention the snowshoe equipment. I think we’re over the original list we wrote on March 4, 2011, but we’re excited to compar ...Read more...

From the site: Our Life Experiments- A travel and adventure blog - On The Road To Portland (Part 1)

We reluctantly left San Diego after spending two awesome weeks there. Our original plans had included visiting Joshua Tree National Park next, but we soon found out that all the campgrounds in the vicinity were booked solid because of Spring Break. We spent an extra day on the beach instead...bummer. :o) Sunday morning I woke up with the crack of dawn because we were spending that day RIDING ROLLER COASTERS!! We drove three hours north from San Diego to Santa Clarita, to Six Flags Magic Mountain and then spent the next eight hours running around the park like school children, trying to ride as many coasters as we could.Six Flags Magic Mountain!!We ended up riding on all the Maximum Thrill coasters and several Moderate Thrills, a t ...Read more...

RV Boondocking News - RVing in snake country

From the site: RV Boondocking News - RVing in snake country

Boondocking – traveling out away in the "boonies" and away from traditional campground and hookups – has it's own variety of knowledge base. Recently an RVer who contemplated trying boondocking inquired of other RVers, "What about snakes?"It's not uncommon to be a bit fearful of snakes, and when you get out away from the beaten track, it would seem you're more likely to encounter these slithering reptiles. So what about it? Can you go camping in your RV and still be safe?A bit of knowledge can help overcome anxiety. First off, your chances of dying from a venomous snakebite here in the U.S. is near to zero. Each year, less than 8,000 folks are bitten by a venomous snake, and of those there are only about five or six fatalities. ...Read more...

From the site: RV Travel - Products for recreational vehicles. - How Maui Jim sunglasses have built a cult-like following

Products for recreational vehicles.Eye care professionals agree that eye exposure to the sun without protection--meaning sunglasses--can increase the risk of cataracts and damage to the retina. But inexpensive sunglasses will not shield the eyes from all UV rays, and they will leave a lot to be desired in what you see--and how the world looks--through the lenses. What you do get from cheap lenses is distortion, color degradation, loss of sharpness, and no reduction in glare that better quality sunglasses provide. Yes, better glasses will cost you more, but when you make a side by side comparison, the decision is an easy one. The people at Maui Jim--the Hawaiian sunglasses manufacturing company--wanted to convince me, a born skeptic, how go ...Read more...

ROAMING FREE 2010 - Moving Day to Gulf Shores, AL

From the site: ROAMING FREE 2010 - Moving Day to Gulf Shores, AL

Friday was moving day for us, and there was potentially severe weather moving in for the weekend, so we got up early and got ready to move.  Packing up went pretty quickly and we pulled out of the site without incident. We had a few trees to work around, but at least the roads had dried up from the rain early in the week.  We made our way to the dump station, and Tom took care of the dirty business! With that job done, we were ready to hit the road! Since the state park was so far from the interstate, Tom hadn’t taken the truck out to fill it with diesel, so our first destination was a truck stop about 40 miles away.  Diesel was $4.05, and I topped off the car too, for $3.57 – not too bad! The Tabasco Factory in Louisiana is one of the first tours my family ever went on when full timing. Not so much because we love spicy hot sauce, it just happened to be close by when we started officially traveling full timing. Our first visit here was almost three years ago, but we also were able to visit here again a few months ago. So don’t worry, this review is fairly up to date.   The Tabasco factory is located on Avery Island a few hours away from New Orleans. Avery Island contains not only the fields that grow all the peppers for Tabasco Sauce; it also holds the only factory in the world that makes Tabasco Sauce! Al and Ed wore themselves out playing golf, we tried a few restaurants in the area, card games aplenty were played, and we had an overall nice week. Cooler, but sunny everyday until his last day here. We also rented a pontoon boat one afternoon and cruised up and down the Homosassa River, seeing tons of manatees all around. When it gets cooler out, the manatees come further up the river into the warmer waters of the springs. If you ...Read more...

For those following this rather lengthy blog and insanity that we call our world, WELCOME… Lynda and I have been living in our RV for about 6 months trying to get everything lined up for taking off on our road trip for a lifetime.. And with that, had to come up with a way to earn a living while traveling, and to get health insurance as well. These were our last two items and we suspected it would take until 2015 to pull that off.. Hmmm as Gomer Pyle used to put it.. Turns out that her friend Trish Claussen has a connection with a firm that just happened to be interested in Lynda’s services as a business coach. live. work. dream. - Our LED RV Lighting Market Research Report

From the site: live. work. dream. - Our LED RV Lighting Market Research Report

The cost of converting all the RV lights in our fifth wheel to LED lighting was the primary reason we waited so long. Funny how frugality kept us from being frugal. Sure, we can save big on rent by camping off the grid, but no formal cost benefit analysis is required to determine that it could take quite a while to recoup the costs of installing all new LED lights. It’s more of a comfort level investment. LED lighting will allow us to enjoy boondocking more without having to run the generator as often or walk around with our Petzl headlamps on just to do the dishes. LED RV Lighting, Big Expense or Business Opportunity? Changing all the lights in an RV to LED bulbs can be very expensive, unless you know where to look. Once I disco ...Read more...

OUR NEWELL ADVENTURE - Up on the roof......

From the site: OUR NEWELL ADVENTURE - Up on the roof......

The rain came down until the wee hours Tuesday morning, but when we awoke the sun was out.  Since TLE was working on her first blog post I decided to defer mine until later, and went outside to take advantage of the rain water still clinging to the coach and trailer.  I got out my towels and started wiping down the trailer first, then the coach.  That was the easy part....the hard rain had washed off the dirt, and all I had to do was wipe off the residue of the storm.  Since I was feeling so energetic I decided to go up on the roof to take care of a long deferred project.....clean the roof.  Even though one cannot see the top of the coach from the ground, and, therefore, cannot see how dirty it is, I knew it was fil ...Read more...

Oh, the Places They Go! - Zion – West Rim Trail

From the site: Oh, the Places They Go! - Zion – West Rim Trail

Virgin, UT Today we headed back into Zion’s Main Canyon to hike one of the more popular trails in the park. The West Rim Trail begins benignly along the banks of the Virgin River on a nicely paved trail.  Last week the schools in this area of Utah were on Spring Break and the canyon was very crowded.  We thought that this week, with schools back in session, the park might be a little less crowded.  But as we began this hike there were a couple of large groups ahead of us. But hiking with a large group is a slow process, as the groups moved like a herd of cats, so we quickly passed them and found the trail more open ahead of us. After a short hike along the river, we began what we knew would be a long climb up the side ...Read more...
