Ray and Cindy's RV Travels - Sight Seeing and Fridge Update

From the site: Ray and Cindy's RV Travels - Sight Seeing and Fridge Update

Port Clinton, Ohio High 79 Low 63We went sight seeing to the towns of Port Clinton and Marblehead. We saw the oldest continuously used light house on the Great Lakes. It was originally 50 feet high and is now 65. That doesn't seem very tall, but I guess it is tall enough. The light shines every 6 seconds at night.View of Lake Erie from the base of the light house.Large amusement park by looking the other way from the light house. This is from the RV Park looking across the bay. There is a small maritime museum by the light house. It had some interesting displays including a chart of the ship wrecks on the Great Lakes. We also drove around the campgrounds here (Erie Islands Resort). There are many rental cabins which are built different than an ...Read more...

RV Honeymoon - Day 12 // Connecticut pt. 2

From the site: RV Honeymoon - Day 12 // Connecticut pt. 2

We got up and were ready for a fun-filled day! Stop 1 was Gillette Castle State Park. I, for some reason, thought this was going to be a really old castle. Apparently I was forgetting that the USA is not that old actually and that old castles only exist outside of the USA. This castle was built in like the 1930s which is still cool, but not cool. After walking in, we asked the tour guide person who actually owned the castle. She looked at us like we were crazy for not knowing and told us “Mr. Gillette.” Well yes, we kinda figured that out. So we had to ask her who exactly he was. She was not impressed with our knowledge, or lack thereof. Turns out he was an actor who played played Sherlock in a play.. I think. Early morning at Crater Lake, Oregon On day #5, June 14th, we woke up early because it was freakin’ freezing! We have a heater, but had been optimistic about the temperatures and should probably have set the heater a wee bit higher. It was 30 degrees outside at 7:00 am. There was frost on the ground. Unless you’re a polar bear, that’s just crap for summer weather. Getting up early has it’s advantages. You can beat the crowds to the most popular tourist spots. And that’s how it was at Crater Lake. Editors note: JoAnne and I took two of our grandkids to Yellowstone. We left on July 21 and returned on July 27. Our Grandson thought it would be fun to do a blog post. The photos were also taken by him.My name is Caleb and I am an eleven year old traveling in an RV with my grandparents on a trip to Yellowstone. The first nights rest stop (on our way to Yellowstone) was in a little backcountry campsite. We parked on a little dirt road and we stayed for one night. We had no hookups and there was nobody else around. This type of camping is known as boondocking. Monday we moved from Big Meadows to Park Creek.  Tim and Paulo are on vacation so we decided to bug them a while as they like Park Creek the best because it still has trees, unlike Big Meadows. They have a great set up with tent so big we dubbed it The Hotel, a cook tent area and a cover for the table. Tim made sausage and jalapenos for snacking while he cooked a nice pork chop dinner with calavacita (squash) casserole with corn and cheese….so yummy.      Look what we found when we returned to our rig…..the chipmunks had found our stash of peanuts that Jim uses to lure them to get up on his knee.  They ate every last one in the container.      Last night we had “The Bo ...Read more...

From the site: Dave & Diane throwing caution to the wind - Our new TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System)

We finally did something that I have been thinking and talking about since before we ever hit the road. We bought a TPMS (Tire-pressure-monitoring systems). It’s one of those things that is not necessarily that cheap that you take it lightly yet not really that expensive in the big scheme of things considering the safety issues and damage a blowout can cause with these big tires. Flat tires and blowouts are among the most common breakdown problems RVers have, and a pressure-monitoring system can often make the difference between simply pulling over to add some air or fix a slow leak — or having a Oh-Shit moment. Even though most of us relate flat tires and blowouts too things we run over on the road they often occur beca ...Read more...

From the site: On the Road of Retirement - Yellowstone and Teton NP Loop Drive…

With a few days left here in Rexburg, Idaho we decided that we should make a trip over to Yellowstone National Park or Teton National Park. When I looked at the mileage it looked like the thing to do was to go see both parks. This would be our largest one day loop trip ever but  the allure of seeing two spectacular National Parks in the same day convinced us to think, why not? I woke Sharon way earlier than she would prefer and we hit the road going north to West Yellowstone. We entered Yellowstone and the visual extravaganza began with one scenic vista after another. We have visited both of these parks in the past prior to buying our motorhome so we were delighted to have the opportunity to revisit such grand places. Needless to say ...Read more...

What Makes a Good RV Salesperson? My Roadtrek SS Agile Yesterday I took my cute little Roadtrek SS Agile to the Service Department at Holland Motor Homes in San Marcos, CA. It is at the RV hospital. I have been having issues with a leak behind the bathroom that very inconveniently drips onto my bed. Recently I discovered rust spots on the roof. Rust on the roof, really? I live in southern CA where we are in the middle of a severe drought and it is dry. I have had a bit of a problem with the service writer at Holland in past visits and after speaking with him on the phone I realized I might be up for another battle with this grumpy guy.  What did I do? Knowing that our first visit of the day wasn’t booked until well after lunch we took our time getting out of bed just before 8:00 this morning. Water outside our door. The entire morning during breakfast working at the computers and having lunch the rain continued creating small lakes throughout the campground including a large one at the end of our steps. Red Bay AL It's not a big deal, but we've seen Allegro Bus and other Tiffin models "higher" than our Phaeton with the swirls and stripes from the sides continued onto the ends of the slide boxes. When the slides are in the pattern is continuous, but when the slides are out the ends of our slide boxes are a plain solid color. Not unattractive, but we decided to treat our selves and OurHous to an "upgrade" and have the painting done. We are having it done by McKinney, the same folks that did the body repairs and painting for us when we first got here. Actually, Elaine thinks that the 2015 Phaetons come with that pattern anyway. Love Your RV! - My Yearly RV Hot Water Heater Maintenance

From the site: Love Your RV! - My Yearly RV Hot Water Heater Maintenance

IntroductionRV hot water heater maintenance is pretty straight forward. With a few tools, a warm sunny afternoon and a little know how it’s easy to do it yourself. The main thing we want to do is flush out the sediments and deposits that build up over time in the tank and replace any corrode parts. There are two big manufactures of HW tanks for RVs. They are Atwood and Suburban and the big difference between them is Suburban uses an anode rod and Atwood doesn’t. An anode rod is made of aluminum or magnesium and designed to be a sacrificial element. Meaning instead of the tank corroding away the anode rod does. My Keystone Cougar fifth wheel has a Suburban SW6DE HW heater installed in it so the following article and video will de ...Read more...

A new post from Roads Less Traveled... Mark greets patrons at the Big Money Bank June, 2014 – Leaving the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument behind and continuing our scenic drive to northeastern Oregon along Route 26, we passed through lots of small towns.  Each one celebrated the historic American West in its own way. Still pondering the early 20th century sheep ranching lifestyle we had seen at the Monument, we came across a funny, fake old western town front in Dayville. Rather than building a sheep ranching enterprise, perhaps the easiest way to make a fortune in the old west was to work at the Big Money Bank.
