Ray and Cindy's RV Travels - Chinook Wind October 26, 2013

From the site: Ray and Cindy's RV Travels - Chinook Wind October 26, 2013

Lincoln City, Oregon High 61 Low 45Today started out foggy and fairly cold.  By 10:00 it was up to 52 degrees and we decided to go into town and check out the Casino. We found out they have a lunch buffet for $8.95 for seniors. Before we had lunch, we went and checked out the RV parking. They have a big parking lot designated for RVs where you can boondock free, and I have been told, for as long as you want, so long as you are doing something at the casino. Security also comes through once in a while, so it should be safe. The first two pictures, are of the regular parking lot.If you are passing through Lincoln City, the Casino parking looks like it would be a nice place to boondock for a day or two. It looked like a lot of ...Read more...

RV-Dreams Journal - The Affordable Care Act & Us

From the site: RV-Dreams Journal - The Affordable Care Act & Us

Well, I did it.  I drafted a new web page dedicated to the Patient Protection & Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as the Affordable Care Act (ACA) or "Obamacare". Regardless of where folks stand on it, it is an important piece of legislation that can impact the plans of those contemplating Full-time RVing.  Even the basics are a bit complicated, but for those that want to tackle it, you can check out: "The Affordable Care Act & RVers". I decided to go ahead and do a web page on the subject rather than a Journal entry where my opinions tend to seep in more often.  :) My intent is to go back in and create various examples to help explain many of the provisions but, for now, I just wanted to get the basic inf ...Read more...

Every Miles A Memory - Do You Travel, Or Prefer to be Traveled

From the site: Every Miles A Memory - Do You Travel, Or Prefer to be Traveled

The Oxford Dictionary defines Travel as this: to make a journey, typically of some length or abroad There are many ways to travel, and many ways to be traveled. What is the difference you ask? To travel is to go out and see new things, to explore new places and quench that wanderlust that we all have deep down inside us. Many folks like to travel. Some do it non-stop or every chance they get, others take their annual, once a year vacation to get away from their day-to-day life and spend the rest of the year planning for the next one. Some simply pack a backpack with a change of clothes, throw their camera around their neck and shove some cash in their pocket. Let the road lead them where ever it may. Lose themselves in a new area only ...Read more...

From the site: Workin' RVers - and the remodel continues

One of the additional things we wanted to do during our visit to Indiana was to replace the day/night shades in the motorhome. We didn't know we wanted to do that before we replaced the valances but afterwards it was apparent they had seen their days. Getting called to Amazon early put a crimp in our plans to get this job done. What a pleasant surprise to find a Lowes store here in Campbellsville. We had already researched which blinds we wanted and Lowes sold them. Cool!Monday night I measured all the old blinds and we took that info with us to Lowes once we were off work Tuesday. They cut the blinds to our measurements and we were in business! The blinds we chose are stringless (YEA!) Levolor Cellular Shades. We chose a sand color and dec ...Read more...

From the site: On the Road of Retirement - Indian Pass Raw Bar and the Blast on the Bay…

Once we retrieved my misplaced glasses we stopped to fill up with gas and bought some groceries before returning to our campsite at Mexico Beach. Since it was still early enough to attend the shindig our neighbor told us about, we decided to head on over to the happening at a local restaurant/tavern about 20 miles away. It was a pleasant drive along the coastline as we passed through the town of Port St. Joe and by an Air Force Base. As the GPS notified us that we were getting closer we suddenly saw a long line of cars parked on both sides of the road with still a quarter of a mile to go… We drove on down to the Indian Pass Raw Bar where the music was taking place. The music was part of a larger event called the Blast on the Bay. Th ...Read more...

From the site: OUR NEWELL ADVENTURE - Has this every happened to you?

We woke up in Bozeman, MT to low 30's temperatures......not uncommon for Montana, and not uncommon for this time of year in a lot of the northern part of the lower 48.  Our main reason for stopping off in Bozeman was to visit with our nomadic friends Chris Kopp and Jeanne Callahan who own a 1989 Prevost (Marathon) XL-40 coach.  Chris and Jeanne have been here in Bozeman for almost a month now while he does some specialized work for a local guy who is prepping a truck for the Pike's Peak Climb, so he has a regular work schedule during the days.TLE and I decided to make Tuesday a clean 'er up day.....there was a lot of dust and dirt that had ingressed over the 4 weeks we were in Sidney.  Additionally, the T'Bird was filthy from ...Read more...

It’s time to move on, and we are leaving the Verde Valley Thousand Trails preserve today. Except for the often flakey Verizon internet service, this is one of our favorite campgrounds, and we love the Verde Valley region. But we’re ready for some new scenery. However, we’ll be making a trip to the shop on our way out. A couple of weeks ago, on our way here from Boulder City, I noticed a problem in our motorhome. As we were heading down the steep hill toward the bridge over the Hoover Dam with the exhaust brake on, the check engine light blinked for a second on the Winnebago’s dashboard. It was so quick that I almost didn’t catch it, and I wasn’t sure if I actually did. The rig was running fine and it did ...Read more...

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario.Kathy went to bed early last night because she was not feeling well. She had a scratchy throat and was starting to feel achy as well. Because of her weak immune system she figured she got too close to someone yesterday that was carrying a Flu Bug or had a cold.  My new CPAP worked so well that when my eyes opened and the clock read after 8:30 I knew it was time to get moving. Within minutes I had started breakfast so that I’d get a chance to eat before my appointment. Kathy of course being a real trooper insisted on getting out of bed and having breakfast with me. Seconds before I walked out the door the Weather Channel was showing the actual temperature to be above freezing but with t ...Read more...

I thought I'd try to describe what our days are like here in Port Hueneme.  Over the last four years, we know that many of our friends and family kinda know what we do, but not really most of the time.  I'd say we are not too much different in what we do compared to our other RVing friends, but I'd say there are a fair amount of our family and friends who really could not describe a typical day in our life. A lot depends on whether or not we are in an area with friends or family.  Here in Port Hueneme, that is not the case.  We are don't really know anyone.  Although we did meet John and Pat who are the new campground hosts.  And we met Randy when he joined us on a few holes on the back nine last Friday.   ...Read more...

October 17, 2013On Thursday the Shutdown ended which meant that we could visit some of the previously closed sites – For instance the Ancient Bristle Cone Pine Forest which was about a 45-minute drive from our campground. We had no idea what to expect. What we found was a 25-mile journey up a typical mountain road (sharp turns, big dips and steep inclines) along Hwy 168 and White Mountain Road to Schulman Grove - named after the Dendrologist (look it up) who found this spot. Actually, after spending most of our time in and along the Sierra Nevada Mountains it was interesting to get a view of the Owens Valley from the White Mountains which form the eastern boundary of the Valley. The visitor center was still closed but we were able to ...Read more...

To those of you in colder climates, please forgive me for bragging about our Arizona weather. It’s really comfortable and other than a few small issues it’s been a very easy adjustment from living in a big sticks & bricks.
