From the site: Living The Dream... - Wednesday and Thursday, January 21 and 22, 2015 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

Wednesday morning, Steve headed into town to get propane and fresh water. I cleaned up inside, vacuumed and then made the sauce for the lasagna I was planning for dinner tonight. We are having company stay with us for a couple of nights...yes, my brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Suzanne, are coming out from Indio, CA to visit.Once Steve got back, he decided to re-string the chair that broke the other day. It was about 12:30 when we received a phone call from Suzanne...they were just driving through Quartzsite, so I gave them directions to where Steve would meet them...and Steve headed off on his quad. I had a spectacular greeting from Dunkin (their little Yorkie)...and after big hugs, we all sat outside chatting. It was a particul ...Read more...

From the site: It's about time. - Sugar Cane and Orange Juice Processing and A Turtle Rescue.

Our Location today is Moore Haven, Florida, U.S.A.After going to bed with scratchy throats and stuffed sinuses last night we weren’t surprised when we woke up with heads that felt like bushel baskets this morning. We really would like to thank the idiots in the big box stores yesterday that were hacking and sneezing while making no attempts to cover their mouths. We both woke before the 7:00 alarm because we needed to be on the road bright and early because we’d already paid for the Sugarland Tour for today and we had to be at the Clewiston Museum before 9:00 this morning. The best we could do was take whatever over the counter meds we had and hope for the best. Our Guide Bob.Of course we arrived before the building was unl ...Read more...

How’s that for a sunset?! It’s an awful, cruel place As you’ve probably all gathered we’ve been “hiding out” at our new boondocking spot for almost 2 weeks now. Only a few, select folks have known where we are and they’ve been kind enough to respect our privacy (thanks guys!). Part of our time here has been spent getting over a flu that Paul brought back from Florida (ugh! not fun), the other time has been spent recharging in the wilds we love so much as well as kicking around some flea markets and taking a quick trip to Mexico for the dentist. It’s been the perfect getaway, but we’re coming to the end of the road. We’re approaching our 14-day stay limit so we’ll be ...Read more...

Rock Springs AZ We drove up to Rock Springs this afternoon. Now before our friends and family in Rock Springs WY get all huffed because we didn't tell them we were there, I'll tell you we went to Rock Springs ARIZONA. About 45 miles north of Phoenix, Rock Springs is a small community in the Black Canyon area, most notable for its famous old store and the pies they make and sell. We were amazed at all the changes that have been made there since our last visit maybe 3-4 years ago. The gravel parking lot has been paved and striped. The restaurant has been changed to a two-table snack area where you can buy pies both whole and by the slice and a gift shop. The eating area has moved to the north end of the building, and a saloon has opened in ...Read more...

We’re back in Big Pine Key hanging in the driveway at my dad’s house for the week. Using Tim’s reservation website we managed to get a site at Bahia Honda State Park starting this Sunday. Looking forward to having a waterfront site yet again! Our teeny, tiny Key Deer friend Nothing too exciting going on this week. Took a bike ride over to the Blue Hole in search of alligators. Spotted two smallish ones near the observation deck. As the only fresh water lake (or hole) in the Keys, this spot is known to attract birds and wildlife, including the two resident gators who can often be seen lurking in the watery depths. From the site: OUR NEWELL ADVENTURE - Enjoying the fruits of a nomadic life..........

One of the bonuses to living a nomadic life is the people you meet along the way.....people you would probably never have met otherwise due to many reasons, primary among them being geography.  Living in a fixed location in a 'sticks 'n bricks' home most likely means most of your friends will come from that general geographical region.  When one becomes nomadic, which by definition means you are no longer living in a fixed location, you will meet new people from all over your area of travel and beyond. When we began our nomadic travels almost 3 years ago we planned to visit existing friends and family around the country, and we have done just that.  We have been able to reconnect with friends we made in college, as well as rel ...Read more...

My goal today was the Fern Trail where I had been told, by someone I met on my morning walk to “my spot”, there was an 8’ alligator hanging out.   The most fun way to get there is to take the campground road to the connector trail to the the Hammock Inn which is sadly no longer service sour orange ice cream or anything else.  Upon asking what happened I am told that the concessionair ...Read more...

Others recognize that things  wear out, rust, fade and break,  and they save for inevitable expenditures. As a rule of thumb, it’s wise to put aside 5-10 percent of the cost of the RV each year for replacements and upgrades.    If you’re a clever shopper, do most of your own work, take preventive measures  and are lucky, this should be more than enough. If you must hire everything done, are accident prone and have bad luck,  it may not stretch far enough. &nbs ...Read more...

With New Year’s celebrations now over it’s time for the hard work of resolution honoring to begin in earnest. Many of us will start the year resolving to spend less money and save more. If you’re like Shannon and me, the objective may be to accumulate enough to travel the world; or maybe you’re trying to build a college fund or pad a retirement nest egg. All worthy goals. Unfortunately our good intentions are typically doomed to failure right from the start. By mid-year most of us will have fallen back into the same bad habits we resolve each year to end. We do that not because we lack the necessary willpower, but because we lack the correct perspective. To change our financial behavior we need to fundamentally chan ...Read more...

Your Spring roll out check list may appear endless, but the following ten tips should insure that the most basic and important checks will find problems before they spoil your first of the season camping trip—or worse, cause more damage to undetected problems.  You can add your own favorite check list items to this list. Batteries. You probably haven’t been diligent about keeping your batteries charged through the winter, so also check the water level and the voltage. Clean connections of corrosion and recharge. Tires. Tires can lose 2 psi or more per month while in storage. Check the pressure and bring up to the manufacturer’s suggested inflation based on the RV’s load. Don’t forget the spare. January, 2015 – For the past few days, we’ve been boondocking in the heart of snowbird RV madness in Quartzsite, Arizona, alongside tens of thousands of other RVs. This is a wild and crazy place full of wacky seniors soaking up the warm sun and living it up in the desert. Quartzsite is such a small blip on the map on I-10, between Phoenix and LA, that few motorists on the interstate give it the time of day, unless they need gas. However, flocks of RVs descend on it every winter, because of the massive tracts of BLM land (and free camping) that surround the town.
