RV-Dreams Journal - Travel Day To The Reunion Rally Venue - (Marion, NC)

From the site: RV-Dreams Journal - Travel Day To The Reunion Rally Venue - (Marion, NC)

This morning we got packed up and disconnected for our 125-mile trip to Marion, North Carolina where our 2015 Reunion Rally will be held starting May 23.  We pulled out around 10:45. That trip includes three areas that I'm not crazy about when towing: The curvy 10-mile section of U.S. Hwy 411 between Sevierville and I-40 on the I-40 end The 50-mile section of I-40 going through the mountains between Tennessee & North Carolina The 5-mile 6% downhill grade on I-40 between Black Mountain & Old Fort. My body gets hot while I'm driving those sections.  Blood pressure increase?  I don't know. The U.S. Hwy 411 stretch just takes patience and going slow, and you can't cheat to the middle of the road due to the hills and curve ...Read more...

The Fit RV - The Juicy Details on the Next Fit RV

From the site: The Fit RV - The Juicy Details on the Next Fit RV

Since announcing that we’re getting a new, yellow Winnebago Travato , I’ve received a number of questions through comments and email. Most of them were wondering what would be different about our build, and how this would satisfy our requirements (which we’ve never been shy about sharing). We get it. You’re curious. So I’ll go over the big changes in this post. These changes make it not exactly a 59G, but more like a “59GX”. (That’s totally my own name – not an official Winnebago designation. But I think the “X” makes it cool.) So as you read this, please keep in mind that this is a concept vehicle. Winnebago isn’t certain that any of these things will be offered as sta ...Read more...

“It caught on fire. Well that’s bad. It burned the water hose, which put out the fire. Oh, that’s good. Then the engine overheats. Oh, that’s bad. From the site: RV Boondocking News - Working around Forest Service campground closures

One of the major players in public lands recreation across the country are National Forests. Trails, recreation sites, and campgrounds, along with a network of roads that makes access to all of these things easier for RVers are a mainstay for many in the RVing community. But an alarm bell just rang in Colorado that should be of concern. The San Juan National Forest is a huge chunk of public property, covering nearly two million acres – almost 3,000 square miles, touching on 10 different counties in the western part of the state. You may well be familiar with it – if you ever caught a ride on the Durango and Silverton Railroad, you've passed through a section of that forest. Needless to say, it's not a small player in terms of pub ...Read more...

Beyond Pemberton and continuing on Hwy 99 to Lillooet, things got interesting. Narrow, rough road, steep climbs that went straight up the slope, bridges with warnings about washouts, single lane sections, a bit of gravel, hairpin turns and long descents. Of course, I'm never one to be scared away from a road or to dissuade others, so I'll add that none of it was anything that couldn't be handled with moderate speeds and a bit of vigilance, and it's a well-travelled road. #Airstream #britishcolumbia #lillooet ...Read more...

Torrey, UT Our friends, Larry and Annette, live just outside Torrey.  One of the treats during our visit here was a hike they took us on to check out some fossils of ancient dinosaur bones.  The location is not on any map and is not publicized so you need “local knowledge” to find them. Annette leads the way   There is no trail that leads to the fossils so you have to pick your way up a very rocky wash requiring some scrambling. Is that a young dinosaur emerging out of the rocks!   Once up on top we enjoyed some great views of the surrounding area. But soon our attention moved from the great views to the dinosaur fossils in the rocks around us. There were small chips around us that looked like they were f ...Read more...

From the site: The Greater Outdoors - Have a blast this summer with a group camping trip

Going camping doesn’t have to be done with just a small group of people or alone. In fact, group camping is one of the most fun and memorable ways to spend some time in the outdoors. There’s nothing quite like sitting around the campfire with an entire group of your friends or loved ones. Making s’mores, telling scary stories, and having sing-a-longs are all made better with the presence of friends. Plan a group camping trip this summer, and you’ll create great memories that will last a lifetime. The keyword here, however, is “plan.” Although a spontaneous group camping trip can also be great fun, a little preparation and planning will help things run a lot smoother. We passed the Amphitheater Area where we must have seen a performance of Texas! and also passed the horse corral where we saw a number of horses.  Since it it not really the peak season, we saw no riders and the outdoor production is not up and running yet.We were glad to enjoy the beautiful canyon and the cloud formati ...Read more...

Location: Catskill, NY (High 92, Low 60) We have three slides on our rig and after four years of use, for the most part, we have not noticed any damage inside on our floor from the rollers. However, about a year ago, we started finding black flecks, kind of like paint, inside on the floor after we had traveled and put the kitchen slide out. When Harry looked at the underside of the slide, he found that the material coating the floor was flaking off. Last summer, he tried painting the underside with Rustoleum spray paint to protect it from the weather. However the paint was no match for the slide rollers which continued to do damage and eventually started to dig right into the wood itself. From the site: ultimatecampsite - Counterclockwise Around Four Corners 7:30 to 1:30

We’re on the road again, swinging a counterclockwise loop around the four corners states: Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. We started in Mesa and headed up to our place on the rim. Everything is nice and green, and plenty of water all around. Filled the peanut feeder for the Stellar’s jays and the Abert’s squirrels before heading out. We’ve been trying new paths in and out of Arizona. This time we drove on hwy 61 into New Mexico and the Zuni reservation. We stopped for the day at El Morro National Monument. The sandstone rock there has been the crossroads for travels for 100s of years. Probably because it has a year-around water source in a pond at the base of the rock. We packed up our VRBO yesterday and drove to the RV park on the north side of town where we'd stored the trailer for the week. In fact, we'd paid $25 a night to park it in a spot just outside the gate, an arrangement we hadn't really had time to improve on the day we'd arrived on the ferry. In any case, while Ann played with the kids on the playground, I went to the office to get our site number for a night inside the campground we'd reserved for getting resettled. At the desk, I asked the woman if she'd gotten my email asking about being assigned a site near #47. I explained that some friends had sent us a message suggesting we ask for #46 or #48. "What's their last name?" "Well, I don't actually know it, but I think they're in #47." "You ...Read more...

Even though it was early May, spring has not yet quite arrived at the higher elevations of this park. In fact most of the trees were still quite bare! The campground is nice and spacious and we picked a huge, pull-through site on the F-loop. There are no hook-ups at this campground, and also zero cell service. We did a lot of mountain driving in our motorhome this past winter. I've heard that many people don't like mountain driving, however I don't have a problem with it at all. I wonder if a lot of people don't like it partly because they're unsure of how to do it properly. And therefore it makes them nervous that they're going to end up going too fast to make the next curve, or that their brakes are going to overheat or something like that.Of course you want to have brakes that are in good condition, however the most important part of mountain driving is the correct use of your transmission.Click here to read more... ...Read more...
