Current: Midway Campground at 5am 71 degrees and some dramatic moonlit clouds overhead After a couple of days at Midway, it is amazing how disconnected I feel.  I woke up at 4 this morning worried.  Worried about the Everglades, worried about the gorgeous fresh water springs in Florida, worried about Sherry and David and where they are going to stay next winter.  Worried about…..whatever.  When I wake up like this, I know it is time to just give it up and get up and write.  But then, I feel as though I am in a bit of a vacuum, no connections, no phone again and no way to check in on the world or my kids or my friends.  I sometimes am appalled at my addiction to that connectivity, to simply reading email ...Read more...

Yesterday morning we texted with Dan & Marlene to see where they were going to be camping in Phoenix. Well, we didn’t let Dan pay for us, but we did end up joining them and The Works family over at Usery Mountain Regional Park for just the night. Dinner Last Night: Yesterday, we went to the grocery store without a list!! It was probably for the best considering that the produce department was really lacking in organic and the rest of the market wasn’t very impressive. So this week I’m winging it. Last night we had snacks while we hung out between the trailers. We went for an evening walk a couple of days after we got here to Agave Gulch - the Davis-Monthan AFB FamCamp.  It is a nice time of the day and we caught the sunset.  There is something amazing about these Arizona skies.  Especially in the evening. After our 15-20 minute stroll around the campground, we went back to the Roadrunner and Pam opened the door.  But the handle broke.Ugh oh...Yes the spring loaded handle on the outside broke on the inside.  Hmm. Thankfully it popped open-- but the outside latch was no good. The latch had no life to it and did not "catch" anything. I had noticed one a few days ago had one strand broken. Today when I checked it again, it was broken about half way through. It was time to change it. I have had to change the same left front one three times, and it seems to be doing OK now. This time it was the right front cable. I wanted to work on it before it got hot, so I changed it this morning. We took a few pictures. It seems like it was a good thing to learn how to change the cables and buy the necessary tools. It took me about an hour to replace the cableThis would be easier with a cable cutter, but my drill does the job. So far I ...Read more...

Joe and Betty's Adventures - Busy Morning, Enjoyable Afternoon and Evening

From the site: Joe and Betty's Adventures - Busy Morning, Enjoyable Afternoon and Evening

Yesterday, while Joe was getting ready for the day, the water in the bathroom just stopped. So I checked the kitchen faucet and sure enough, no water there either. He went out and checked the outside connection and there was water leaking around the outdoor faucet and  also the pressure valve where it connects to the MH. After talking to his friend Jim, it was decided he would invest in a water pressure valve and gauge. Jim told him it was a bit "spendy" but $90?  This evening I went on line to Amazon and found one almost like the one he bought for $54.  Oh well, what's done is done. He's happy with how it is performing and we have water again and no leaks. After having people who should have known, tell us we couldn't have bo ...Read more...

WOW - did it ever pour last night! At one point I woke up and tried to remember just how far we were from that river with the alligators anyway?? When we are tucked in, nice and cozy in our little van, with (thankfully) our little heater going, we are happy and thankful for the warmth. We actually enjoy the sound of the raindrops on the roof. Super glad we aren't in a tent tonight (even though we have canvas on our top sides) because there could be no way to stay dry after that deluge!! By this morning, it had stopped but it has continued, off and on, for most of the day. So, here is the skinny on alligators:They don't hibernate they actually brummate. That is, they react to a cold environment by slowing their metabolic activity, ...Read more...

It was a little chilly this morning with the temps in the mid-50s.  But it was gorgeous, and it warmed up quickly. The ladies at the "Solo Cafe" hadn't planned on cooking breakfast this morning, but I sort of guilted them into it.  We bought eggs and bacon and hash browns, so we left them with no excuse.  :)     Breakfast was served to whoever came by to partake.  The deal is to donate something the ladies need in exchange for a wonderful breakfast.        After I finished my modest portion of bacon & eggs, I took a few photos of the circle.        After breakfast, we did our boondocking seminars from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00.  Linda started off with ...Read more...

Now we are getting into the good stuff! Beautiful day here in Central Florida, just made you want to be outside all day! Started off by walking 5.5 miles with Tom....huff...hufff..huff, and then enjoyed a nice coffee sitting outside with him. 10:00 a.m. and I was up on my roof. Back a week or so ago, when we had a really heavy rain storm, we had some minor leaking around our Fantastic Fan Vent in the kitchen... hate it when that happens! Above I started the painstaking job of removing all the old sealant around the vent. This ended up taking me a couple of hours... Brought up a bottle of Simple Green Cleaner with me, and did it ever do a great job of cleaning things up... By later this afternoon, I had put a coat of new sealant on th ...Read more...

To get to dream vacation destinations–whether to the nearest state park or to Alaska–people are seeking smaller, lightweight recreation vehicles that get more miles to the gallon. The RV industry has responded to consumer demands with new designs and is currently into its sixth year of recovery from its low point during 2008 recession. Leading the pack are travel trailers that can be towed by light-duty trucks, and SUVs and more fuel-efficient motorhome. As for prices, new conventional travel trailers typically run $8,000 to $95,000. Class C motorhomes, the smaller ones with over-cab sleeping, usually run $43,000 to $200,000 new.
