Airstream Moho-A-Go-Go - We’ve Mastered The Art of “Dumb Luck!”

From the site: Airstream Moho-A-Go-Go - We’ve Mastered The Art of “Dumb Luck!”

Officially @ Acadia National Park Day 61        August 9 When your day starts out at a microbrewery, that is a great day. This day was a great day! Remember, when I say, “starting out” the day, I mean noon, ‘cause that’s just about the time we’re hittin’ our stride for the day. The day started with no set plan. We commenced our wandering about Acadia National Park and the surrounding environs. I’m still not sure, without consulting a map, when we were actually inside of, or outside of Acadia, and it didn’t really matter. When we saw the signs for the Atlantic Brewing Company, and Mainely Meat, right next to each other, we knew it was gonna be a spectacular day! Ends up that ...Read more...

From the site: Winds of Destiny - RVLife - China Ranch Date Farm - 10/22/14

Located in the very remote area of Tecopa, CA, southeast of Death Valley National Park, this oasis in the Mojave Desert has a long and interesting history. Shoshone and Paiute (Native American) artifacts have been found throughout the area. The Old Spanish Trail is within walking distance as well as the Tonopah & Tidewater railroad line. There are many abandoned gypsum mines on the property of the farm and in the surrounding area.Today, it is a date farm that has been owned by the Brown family since 1970. In the 1890s, Ah Foo, a Chinese man who had worked at the borax works in Death Valley, had created a successful ranch at the location raising cattle as well as fruits and vegetables in the oasis. The Alaskan Camper is hard-sided and the top goes up and down. Here it’s up and it’s remarkably comfortable inside. Very open feeling but with excellent storage. In my last post we talked about data plans for Smartphones. I promised I’d tell you about useful Apps for vandwellers but I’m going to postpone that so I can have a little more time to research and test them and then give you my best report.  Instead, today I want to tell you about my friend Greg’s Alaskan Camper. Here it is with the top down. The low profile gives it three huge advantages: 1) Far better aerodynamics and increased MPG 2) It can go many more places in the back-country than any other camper. 3) It&r ...Read more...

Turn When the Road Does - A great experience in Mexico

From the site: Turn When the Road Does - A great experience in Mexico

My new DENTIST A couple of months ago in Colorado we had our usual 6 month teeth cleaning.  My check up revealed the need for four fillings and a crown.  YIKES.  The dental office in Denver said they could help me by reducing the cost from $2,400.oo to $2,000.oo if I paid a $160.oo fee upfront???  A great strategy to sidestep the possibility of negotiating the price!!!  I simply responded with a request that they email my Xrays, PRONTO. The Business district in Los Algodones When we were back home, I did a Google search and quickly verified what I heard from other bloggers.  The Mexican border town of Los Algodones offers some great options for Dental and Optical services at much lower costs that here in the US ...Read more...

From the site: live. work. dream. - How to Remove Old Vinyl RV Graphics and Ghost Letters

I do have some helpful tips to share about how to remove old vinyl lettering off an RV, but first I have to mention why we might take the graphics off our mobile headquarters that have been advertising Team Agreda everywhere we’ve been over the past seven plus years… The cat is out of the bag. The first time those words appeared in this blog, we had just sold our sticks and bricks business and not yet even picked up the brand new 2007 Arctic Fox 245N fifth wheel trailer we purchased with plans to travel the country for a year with Jerry. That rig served us well, very well. But as Rene eluded to in her recent rant about the evolution of our lifestyle, the time had indeed come for another major life upgrade. So upgrade we did. ...Read more...

From the site: On the Road of Retirement - Christmas Pass and Grapevine Canyon Hike…

It was just a short 70 mile drive south from Las Vegas to our next destination, Cal-Nev-Ari RV Park in Cal-Nev-Ari, Nevada.  We discussed what an interesting name for a town it was and in reading about it we discovered that the town was created in the mid-1960s by a couple who acquired a section of land from the U.S. government (640 acres) and then began to develop an airport based community. Today, the Kidwell Airport and a bustling town of about 250 people along with a market and a casino call this area home. Why are we here? Well I wanted to visit here for three reasons… One I don’t like to travel far, two it is only $11.00 for full hook ups with Passport America and three, there is a cool hike I wanted to do nearby. & ...Read more...

Bolder City, NV On Saturday we left Valley of Fire and moved south of Las Vegas to Boulder City.  After moving every two or three days for the past month, we took a site in Canyon Trail RV Park for two weeks.  The park is only a few miles from the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, which is just full of interesting hikes and Jeep roads, so we need some time to explore.  Who knows, a hike through the casino canyon known as The Strip may be in our future! For our first hiking adventure we drove south across the Colorado River into Arizona to the White Rock Canyon Trailhead, where we intended to hike to the Liberty Bell Arch.  From the parking area the trail immediately drops into a wash and goes under Rte. 93. To simplify... - Dry Falls

From the site: To simplify... - Dry Falls

I don't believe I've ever heard anyone say much about the right half of Washington state, but then, given my tendency to be outside the loop on a great many things, that doesn't mean the place isn't in fact all the rage. Regardless, it turns out that this half is much more my speed compared to the trendier left side, so it's really a shame about the whole "winter" thing that's looming.Jerry, a part-time traveler that I met a few days ago at the Grand Coulee Dam, mentioned Dry Falls nearby, and having learned from friend and fellow nomad Wayne to surrender to such cues, I went to investigate the following morning. Pictured above, what's left of these "dry falls" was anything but at the end of the last ice age – 3.5 miles wide, ove ...Read more...

I just don't do well with hanging off the side of a cliff in a vehicle going whatever speed - truth be told - walking wouldn't even be my style. Ya I know - and here you thought I was Miss Risk Taker - nope - not even close. But enough whining - I can be real brave and step up to the plate if need be. It is amazing just how difficult it is to come up with a name for your Rig.  For weeks now Eileen and I have been compiling a list of names that we have thought about and just prior to our departure I suggested that we should choose one so that I could get them computer cut when I went up to Brisbane to get the Solar fitted. We agonized over the list we had made and really weren't happy with any of them and as it would happen an add came on the TV for the musical, The Lion King and they were singing the song "Hakuna Matata' when I asked Eileen what did it mean? Greetings!  It's been an active two days in the area.  Yesterday we rode the mountain bikes out Sheepbridge Road.  We climbed up the road for about 4 ish miles to where the JEM trail crosses the road.  At that point we stood and talked to three other riders who recommended we go left on JEM, and take Goosebumps down to Cryptobionic, which would then return to Sheepbridge Road. It's just lovely out there. This is Goosebumps.  It trends generally downhill, and is full of  whoop-de-doos (a series of up-and-down bumps, suitable for jumping).  They're fairly abrupt because they go through a lot of water courses.  It was fun for the most part, I walked a couple of off camber side hill trails. When given the ch ...Read more...

Morro Bay CA If you are at all timorous or uncertain about where the corners of your motorhome and towed vehicle are, do NOT drive CA route 1! And driving it southward is not for those who don't like to be close to edges of roadways and cliffs. For me, it was one of the more exciting and fun routes I have ever driven in our motorhomes. CA 1 is the coastal route and runs between US 101 and the coast. In some places it runs right along the coast - at one spot there were warning signs about the surf overtopping the low wall along the road. In others it runs several hundred feet above the ocean and along high cliffs, some with no guard rails or walls. Elaine took this photo as we were entering one of the curves on CA 1 ...Read more...

A friend asked my yesterday why I do so many crazy things. What's my raison d'etre? He mentioned a few specific examples, and I had reasons for each, but those reasons weren't similar to each other. I've been thinking about it since then, though. Is there some universal motivator that's behind everything I do? If so, knowing what it is might be useful. The more I think about it, the more I think that I don't do very many crazy things. At least not when you consider the scope of crazy things I could do. When it comes down to it, I think that my search space for actions to take is just a whole lot broader than most people's. For example, sometimes I think about where else I could park my RV. There are 9 spots in the Princess Ann section (on Princess Ann Road) and 15 spots on the Chalk Banks (another bank of the river several miles away). We chose the Princess Ann section based on photos alone — it was more wooded and right by the river. We were looking for some peace and quiet, so it seemed like a good bet.
