Morro Bay CA If you are at all timorous or uncertain about where the corners of your motorhome and towed vehicle are, do NOT drive CA route 1! And driving it southward is not for those who don't like to be close to edges of roadways and cliffs. For me, it was one of the more exciting and fun routes I have ever driven in our motorhomes. CA 1 is the coastal route and runs between US 101 and the coast. In some places it runs right along the coast - at one spot there were warning signs about the surf overtopping the low wall along the road. In others it runs several hundred feet above the ocean and along high cliffs, some with no guard rails or walls.
