We thought about staying at North River Campground near Shawboro, North Carolina longer because we really liked the campground and I would have liked to have toured the Museum of the Albemarle in nearby Elizabeth City. But they are having their annual seafood festival this week and we didn’t have advance reservations, so it was time to move on. Once a major seaport, sailing ships delivered cargo from ports all over the world to Elizabeth City, and there is a lot of history to be found in the area. In the short time we were in the area, we spent part of one afternoon exploring the old downtown along the waterfront, checking out a neat bookstore, and even learning about a haunted house in town.
