XCTRAVELER on the Road - and Now for Something Really Different

From the site: XCTRAVELER on the Road - and Now for Something Really Different

We are wanderers. Have been since before we started RVing. For the past couple of years Carol and I have talked about where we might settle down "some day." We had never found anyplace  we wanted to stay for more than a few weeks so the topic was moot. While we were at the Escapade we visited the "Row" where various SKP organizations and Coops had members present to attract new members. We stopped by the Jojoba Hills SKP Resort booth and spoke with John at length. We decided it would be a nice idea to stop there for a week before going on to Malibu Beach RV Resort since it is less than 3 hours from Yechiel and Miriam's home in LA.We have not considered a Coop until now. We have stopped at a few of them and they have been very nice, but ...Read more...

From the site: SASSY'S ON 'DA ROAD - ON TO OVERTON, NEVADA

With still lots of time before we had to even think about heading North, we had hoped to spend more time at Telephone Cove.  But Joe woke up to this… The water had risen quite a bit and Joe feared his jacks would sink and he wouldn’t be able to get out of there.  Tara comes over to my spot to tell me the situation and a quick pack up had to be done and we were off. I was soooo disappointed because I definitely could have spent another few days there.  I was comfortable enough by then to have stayed there on my own.  BUT I was NOT comfortable enough to tackle the 5 Miles of UPHILL to get out of there with the rig and tow. So I followed Joe UP the hill in the rig and Tara followed me in Ms. Daisy.  Once ...Read more...

"Loyalty to petrified opinion never yet broke a chain or freed a human soul." Mark Twain. Ok, let's set the stage before the fireworks get started. First of all these are my opinions, which makes them neither right nor wrong. Opinion, "petrified or otherwise," isn't really much more than an emotional security blanket—it avails warmth and comfort in an hour of need. It can get a little cold and lonely out there, standing in "right field."Opinions are often shaped and formed by experience and exposure—vantage point, if you will.  Opinions change, or at least get refined, as one gains wisdom... which is to say, perspective. Sandstone Bluff overlooks the 3000-thousand year old lava flow protected by the El Malpais National Monument. From the site: In the Direction of Our Dreams - Springs on the Santa Fe River: Rum Island, Lily and Poe

Wednesday March 25, 2015O’Leno State ParkHigh Springs, Florida     There are more than 36 springs on the Santa Fe down river from the River Rise.  We are going to visit 3 of them today as we kayak from Rum Island, which has a spring, up to Poe Springs. We drive over to Rum Island County Park which is on the Santa Fe about 12 miles from O’Leno.  It is a free park, no frills with a nice natural boat launch. When we arrive we find a passel of 11 yellow double kayaks all around the kayak launch.  Seems the outdoor club at West Virginia University has sent the kayaks and 22 students down to paddle the rivers in northern Florida for their Spring Break.  They are a very noisy bunch and their team hadn&rs ...Read more...

Who are these modern day gypsies who spend their lives on the road? What prompted them to leave their former homes and communities for a life on wheels? Each week we will introduce you to some of the fulltime RVers we meet in our travels and those who read this blog. It’s a big transition to move from living in a large, beautifully restored Queen Ann Victorian home to a 40 foot diesel pusher, but Marcy and Steve Krauss have handled it very well. And after fourteen years of fulltiming across North America and RVing as far away as Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, they are still loving every minute of it. Hellooooooooo!Phew.Ha! I just noticed that it has been exactly one month since our last post! Amazing - where has the time gone I wonder.....Well, we all can't be too surprised that we disappeared although even I didn't think it would be this long. The logistics of moving to a new place and getting everything set up is never fun. In our case, we were working with the additional challenges of our new home being our new work place - needing to work with our new employers to sort things out. I watched Bobbie slowly make her way around the camp-loop in Sue Bee… headed off to "overflow" to wait out her "sentence." I sat behind Goldie's wheel, trying to calm down some before having a conversation with the rude camp host. In the old days, I would have went in on the offensive, "guns blazing," kinda like in third grade, when I was the biggest kid in class. In the uncivilized adult male world, impertinence often backfires and only serves to escalate hostilities. But when all those chemicals and hormones get released into the bloodstream, it's like cocaine… it feels so good. I finally got off my duff Monday and called A.M. We’re still hoping to dewinterize and use our fresh water system, but it looks like we’ll have to put a trouble light in the front compartment where the pump is located. With the temperatures forecast, I’m afraid our water pump will freeze. I sure hope this is the last of the cold weekends! Likely it is since it’s our last weekend at the trailer until April 11th. A view of the “island”The park is actually quite small, with only two trails to choose from; The Rim Trail leads you a short distance out from the Visitor’s Center along the rim of the canyon(duh) while the Island Trail drops you down into the canyon itself to tour some of the cliff dwellings. Two years ago half of this trail was closed, so this time I got to hike the full loop, all 0.9 miles of it. It is not the length that is the hurdle, it is the 200+ stairs that must be traversed to go down, then back up out of the canyon ...Read more...

Most American’s spend the year working hard and saving what they can to be able to afford to take their family on an annual vacation.  For many of us, that vacation is a roadtrip in the RV! This can be completely attainable with a little forethought, planning, and preparation.  When you’re traveling, making stops here and there, buying souvenirs, lunches out, paying entrance fees, etc., it’s easy to spend loads of money without really realizing it.  A good plan is to budget for as many of those things as you can reasonably anticipate.
