"I think I climb mountains because I get a great deal of enjoyment out of it. I get satisfaction out of overcoming some challenge which is difficult… perhaps maybe a little dangerous." Edmund HillaryThere are times when I need to go to the mountains alone, someplace I have to work at to get to… break a sweat, heave for air. There is spiritual/emotional magic when one combines mountains and aloneness, it clears the head, resets priorities and perspectives, and diminishes woes. Mountains are impartial; they don't care. Life's Little Adventures - If The Spirit Moves You

From the site: Life's Little Adventures - If The Spirit Moves You

And it did early Saturday morning as some of the gang piled into our Subaru for a drive towards Red Mountain Pass and a hike to Spirit Basin. Mark dropped off his truck about three miles before we came to the trail so we could make a loop and not have to walk along the road another three miles back to our car. It was a great idea as about the last four miles of our nearly seven mile hike were all down hill. The trail actually started off fairly level, and included a creek crossing. Then it climbed to remnants of an old mine. Then we made a steep climb into Spirit Basin, a beautiful area full of wildflowers. We stopped for a break and a snack. Then Joalenn decided she wanted her picture taken in the flowers, which led ...Read more...

From the site: Me and My Dog ...and My RV - A quiz for you: Was that SCARY or LUCKY? I think BOTH!

This was a first for us.  It was super hot Friday, so for our "longer" walk we waited until it was almost dark to get out the stroller and walk around the campground.  We were walking along the paved road and passed something on the inside edge of the pavement.  I stopped and backed up, saying to myself, "It looks like a large, fat lizard.  Darn, I didn't bring my camera!"  I wondered if it had been run over because it wasn't moving.  It was dark enough that I couldn't see the critter clearly, just an outline, barely, and it looked to be just sitting there, about a foot long and fat in the middle.  I was thinking, a big lizard that just had a meal.I got closer, maybe three feet away, and started to lean do ...Read more...

From the site: blog.goodsam.com - Cable Wake Boarding on Idaho’s Wakeside Lake

If you haven’t seen wakeboarding, you’ve missed some exciting water sport action. With about 50 sites operating in the United States, finding a wakeboarding location isn’t always easy. But we recently found one right next door to our RV Park. So what exactly is this sport? In 1959, Bruno Rixen invented a the activity in Germany that came to be known as cable wakeboarding. It would eventually spread worldwide, particularly in Europe. This sport is a way to ski from a rope and handle pulled by an electrically powered cable rather than the more familiar version behind a motorboat. The Cable Factory, adjacent to Wakeside Lake RV Park off US Hwy 20 (Exit 332) south of Rexburg, Idaho, provides quite ...Read more...

Well, it turns out that Betsy is in LOVE with lobster, and when she and Nancy invited us over for lobster night at their site we really couldn’t say no. Betsy is a true expert at cooking those critters of the sea. She gave us all a lesson on how it’s done the right way — starting with a pot of fresh from the ocean water and seaweed.
