My wife Dorothy and I sat on this beach for two hours and hardly spoke a word as the sun set. Nothing needed to be said. It was a gorgeous evening. Aluminarium - Quail Creek State Park

From the site: Aluminarium - Quail Creek State Park

For our last week in Utah, we’re camping just north of St. George at Quail Creek State Park in Hurricane. It’s a small park with 23 sites, all have covered picnic tables, firepits and grills. Even though it’s been hot this week, everyone seems to want to have a campfire at night. Lucky for us the sites are pretty far apart so we haven’t been bothered by the smoke. Thanks to Pam for recommending the nearby Farmers Market in Laverkin for groceries where I was able to pick up some good produce! Dinner Last Night:Millet with white beans and pesto. I didn’t really follow this recipe, I was more inspired by it. I made the millet according to the package along with a basic pesto recipe (I cut the oil by 1/3 and used ...Read more...

The Roadrunner Chronicles - Seeing St. Augustine Again

From the site: The Roadrunner Chronicles - Seeing St. Augustine Again

We really like our campground at Naval Station Mayport.  It is just north of Jacksonville and St. Augustine.  We have been to St. Augustine a few times and always love seeing it again.Since we have been here, we have made the 40 mile drive to there three times and a couple of those times we saw the city again on the Old Town Trolley ToursWe learn a lot and are reminded of things we forgot.  And you can get off and on at any stop along the 22 places on the tour.  The tickets were good for more that one day so that was nice. The tour took us over by Flagler College that was originally a hotel built by former Standard Oil magnate Henry Flagler.  After he left Standard Oil with his fortune, he went to St Augustine, decid ...Read more...

Recreational Vehicles, RV Parks and RV Travel - RV ing the Spartan way – What exactly can you leave behind easily?

From the site: Recreational Vehicles, RV Parks and RV Travel - RV ing the Spartan way â€" What exactly can you leave behind easily?

(this is an excerpt from my book: The Spartan RV) Tweet This:@rv52 - Thanks for letting me know what I can leave behind! - http://rv52.com/?p=39575 #RVIt seems a little bit silly, but if you are very new to RVs, here is a list of things you won’t need. You won’t need these because there is either no room in the RV for it, or the RV has it built in. This list is partly the list of what things to get rid of… * Couch – these are built-in to the RV. * Comfy TV Chairs – these are built-in, come with, or there is no space and you’ll use the built-in couch. Sometimes, you can discard the RV chair and bring in your own – but beware the weight difference. Extra weight is dangerous and illegal. * Dinin ...Read more...

Living The Dream... - Monday, October 20, 2014 (South Beach State Park, Newport, Oregon)

From the site: Living The Dream... - Monday, October 20, 2014 (South Beach State Park, Newport, Oregon)

Considering the forecast was for a rainy day, it sure ended up being pretty darned nice...well, until 2:45 p.m....that's when the downpour started. We had a very lazy start, did our resistance exercises and after showering, I made a "big" breakfast. After doing dishes and cleaning up...it was going on 11:00 when we decided to get out for a walk around the campground. We walked past Chris and Cherie's (Technomadia) 1961 vintage bus home...Steve took a picture of one of the campground sites...as an example of some sites that are long and wide enough but have low hanging branches that need trimming...After that bit of exercise, Steve continued editing the pictures he took yesterday. I can't do the blog until he has done that. He managed to get 2 ...Read more...

On the Road of Retirement - Having Fun in Sin City, Las Vegas, NV…

From the site: On the Road of Retirement - Having Fun in Sin City, Las Vegas, NV…

We have enjoyed our time here in Las Vegas. The last time we were here we spent most of our time on the strip since we were camped only a few miles away from the Mandalay Bay Casino. This time we are staying near the Main Street Station Casino in the older downtown area which has offered a completely different vibe. The obvious draw to the older downtown area is a nighttime light show called the Fremont Experience. The hourly light show along with people watching always makes for a fun evening. There are many characters dressed up in everything from cupid, transformers, Disney icons and we even saw Mr. T. Of course since this is Vegas there are some more unsavory characters as well. This is one of the few remaining free shows in Las Vegas ...Read more...

RVing & Sailing the Roads Less Traveled - Steep and Deep – Black Canyon, Colorado

From the site: RVing & Sailing the Roads Less Traveled - Steep and Deep â€" Black Canyon, Colorado

Bicycles on scenic Castle Creek Road September, 2014 – Maroon Bells may be the most photographed spot in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, but nearby Castle Creek Road is also very scenic and not nearly as heavily visited. We drove out one day and passed a steady stream of cyclists enjoying an exhilarating road ride. What a place for a morning workout! A tiny historic ghost town named Ashcroft lies at the end of the road. The old buildings were interesting, but we were more intrigued by a row of colorful rugs we saw hanging outside a shop very close by. To simplify... - Rainy Night in Wilbur

From the site: To simplify... - Rainy Night in Wilbur

It's a rainy night in another teeming metropolis – Wilbur this time, population 851 – and I'm whiling away the evening over a hot bowl of chicken and rice soup at Doxie's Diner. It seemed like a good rainy-night-in-Wilbur sort of thing to do, and even though there aren't a lot of other options, it's actually just about perfect. The giant Columbia River slices through these parts so today I took in both Chief Joseph Dam (above) and the biggest daddy of them all, Grand Coulee Dam. Allegedly the largest concrete structure ever built, and the largest electric power-producing facility in the US, so pretty awesome stuff. I briefly considered asking if they could spare a little juice for a nomad's house battery, but didn't.At times like ...Read more...
