XCTRAVELER on the Road - From Joy to Joy

From the site: XCTRAVELER on the Road - From Joy to Joy

Skipping across the south.  We left Joe and the Audubon RV Park following US 90 to the east.  Our next stop was New Orleans.  We stayed at French Quarter RV Park, one block north of Rampart, leaving a two block walk to the French Quarter.  For entertainment we walked the French Quarter, again with a stop at Cafe du MondeBegnet and Coffeeand then back to the coach to change for dinner eventually at Vacherie Restaurant in the hotel of the same name.  No food pics but we both enjoyed our meals and were satisfied to return to the coach and get some sleep.Continuing on US 90, once we got out of the Louisiana, we retraced a route we took the year after Katrina along the Mississippi coast through Gulfport and Biloxi. &nbsp ...Read more...

Gypsy Journal RV Travel Newspaper - Warming Up

From the site: Gypsy Journal RV Travel Newspaper - Warming Up

The last couple of days have been nice, with yesterday down in the mid-70s. But today it will be in the 80s and the next few days will bring us temperatures in the low 90s. Summer is on its way, and the desert is no place to be in an RV. We’re leaving Apache Junction the first of the month. I’ve got an appointment at the VA hospital in Tucson the middle of next month and another in early June, which I’m trying to reschedule for an earlier date. Terry also has to have her annual checkup while we’re there. Hopefully we can get done and get up to the White Mountains for a visit with my daughter and her family before it gets too hot. Then, if everything is okay on the medical front, we plan to head for the cool and gree ...Read more...

Newschool Nomads - A Bittersweet Goodbye

From the site: Newschool Nomads - A Bittersweet Goodbye

The other day on our walk Brent and I saw blades of green grass bravely poking up through the ground where the snow had been waiting all winter. It’s amazing how fast the snow goes when it gets warm. Kinda like life. It just seems like last week we drove up to our home in the mountains.  We were uncertain and nervous of how we would handle wintering in the RV, would our California boys like snowboarding, and can we stay put for three months? Then, like the receding snow, the months passed, three became four, and we said a bittersweet goodbye to Breckenridge.  And left behind a spot we called home for four and a half months. A spot that will be filled with others who will make their own memories. We came to the mounta ...Read more...

From the site: RV Travel - Products for recreational vehicles. - Shurhold's Rust Free Hand Polishing Pads remove water spots from glass and metal

Products for recreational vehicles.Shurhold's Magic Wool Hand Pads were created primarily for the marine industry to clean brightwork and teak wood on all marine craft, but has useful applications for the RV industry too. Few RVs, however, have much brightwork, but they do have metal surfaces--chrome, especially--and glass. And this is where the pads shine. The Magic Wool Hand Pads (they come in flat pads to fit Shurhold's electric buffer as well) will: • Remove rust and oxidation without scratching • Polish all chrome, stainless, copper and brass surfaces • Polish and clean glass surfaces and solar panels • Remove 'Hard Water' stains and water spots This custom blended pad is made from a high grade bronze metallic ...Read more...

Back in Colorado... where we hailed from... they're getting pummeled by a late winter storm.I can't say I miss it. Chopping ice and pushin' critters to places they don't want to go in ten degree weather ~ or less ~ or riding my two wheeled sled to a hardware store, through the same, to squeeze another days subsistence out of a soul draining system... don't toot my whistle at all! We've been riding out a lil' bit of weather here. The wind came up the other night and the clouds lowered over the Sierras to our West and whatever Mountains those are that fringe the west side of Death Valley to our East...Two days of rig rattling wind makes a guy grateful that he's not yet minimized his possessions to either a tiny trailer or canvas. ;)But, gettin ...Read more...

Advanture Trek - Save Me From Myself

Our adventures often take us to remote areas without cell phone service many miles away.  So, I’ve been looking at methods for emergency communication.  Of course, the best plan is to avoid emergencies in the first place with training, research, and preparedness.  If an emergency does occur, self-rescue is the first line of defense.  But, sometimes, outside assistance is necessary. My solutions for emergency communication are layered: Cell phone – I carry a cell phone amplifier.  In my experience, the amplifier substantially improves cell phone coverage.  Also, the “Coverage” app estimates cell phone coverage and is great for answering the “where do I go for cell phone reception&rd ...Read more...

Girls In The Outdoors - My New Adventure

From the site: Girls In The Outdoors - My New Adventure

I have decided to start a new project. I am going to learn how to fly fish. I am both excited and a little nervous. A few weeks ago I asked our Facebook, Twitter and Google+ followers for some advice on getting started. Most of you said not to learn on my own, to hire a guide. I want to do this on my own for several reasons. I get very frustrated when someone is teaching me how to do something and starts pointing out what I'm doing wrong and not explaining in a way I understand. My husband is going to be able to help me a little bit and my boss is a fly fishermen, so I do have some people to go to when I need some help. I also like figuring things out on my own and that feeling I have w ...Read more...

Americana the Beautiful - Seed-Sptting Contest: Where Couth Comes to Die

While I’m making my way east, enjoy this tale of disgusting activities all in the name of a prize and err, honor. *** The Watermelon Carnival Originally posted as a series August 17-22, 2011 The Watermelon Carnival is Water Valley, Mississippi’s most prized annual celebration (that’s what the website says). Bless their hearts. The site also asserts that an estimated 20,000 people attend the various events. Perhaps over the carnival’s history since 1931, but absolutely not in a single weekend. If that’s how they count then we have further evidence of how they achieve their standings in U.S. Education rankings. Politicians were in full evangelizing force. And despite the carnival being held between whi ...Read more...

We survived our two weeks at the state park.  We extended our stay out multiple times.  Every 3 or 4 days we hoped we could leave the state park.  My last post talked about our experiences at the park.  It was fun and we do love it at that location.  We do however miss sewer on site, unlimited water, and INTERNET.  This blog has been a bit ignored lately, and a lot of that was due to the fact we had no easily accessible internet. It’s been a little of 2 weeks since I posted last, and A LOT has happened. The first 10 days we spent at the state park were a bit worrisome.  We had a miracle happen.  Somehow our grey tank managed to last around 12 days.  When we left the park in Two Rivers they ...Read more...
