Love Your RV! - Avoid Overloading of the RV

From the site: Love Your RV! - Avoid Overloading of the RV

RV OverloadingIt’s one of the easiest things to overlook as far as RV safety goes. RVs can be substantially overloaded but not outwardly show it like a car or truck when it is obvious the back end is riding low. So unless you weigh your RV you may never know it may be dangerously overloaded and a safety concern. RVs leave the factory at a safe weight and most give plenty of extra weight capacity for us to load them up with our stuff. But sometimes over a period of time we add things and invent extra storage areas until almost imperceptibly we have bypassed the safe weight.Things That Cause Overloading of the RVCarrying to many tools – I fell into this trap myself. Since I like to do most of my RV repairs and maintenance tasks my ...Read more...

Dave & Diane throwing caution to the wind - Touring the Sea Pines area of Hilton Head

From the site: Dave & Diane throwing caution to the wind - Touring the Sea Pines area of Hilton Head

First off,, Thanks to all of you that contacted us in one way or another and wished Jack well!! And I’m happy to report he is doing fine. Friday 10/25/13 Jack had his appointment and the vet couldn’t find anything wrong with his hip or knee. So he probably twisted wrong or something. The vet gave him some anti-inflammatory medication and then he got his rabies shot, a heartworm test so we could refill his heartworm medicine and a Leptospirosis shot. Did I say GAVE him medicine LOL!!! That little trip to the vet wasn’t cheap. After the vet we let Jack rest and we headed out to check out some more of the area. We hit a few shops down by the beach. We have been wanting to get something colorful to hang from our front mirrors ...Read more...

From the site: Ray and Cindy's RV Travels - 5er Repairs October 27, 2013

Lincoln City, Oregon High 55 Low 41When we woke up this morning it was raining and foggy. It was only supposed to be partly cloudy in the morning, and clearing in the afternoon. Looks like the weather forecasters missed it again. We went to church this morning and got home about 1:30. By 2:00 this afternoon it started to break up, and the sun came out. Right now it is partly cloudy and mostly clear, although it felt cold all day. I expect with the clear sky, it will get really cold.I repaired the broken cable, which is the third time for the same one. There are 4 cables that pull the slides out and 4 that pull them in so on the 2 slides there are a total of 16 cables. As I have said before, the video on repairing it said for the ...Read more...

In the Direction of Our Dreams - Some Bright Spots in the Rain

From the site: In the Direction of Our Dreams - Some Bright Spots in the Rain

Charlottesville, Virginia   As I’m sure you’ve noticed from “Where is Winnona Now” that we’ve been back in the Charlottesville area now for over two weeks.  The time has been spent doing fairly routine things that we all seem to do if we return to our “home towns”-visiting friends, our known mechanics and doctors.  I’ll do a quick catch up, a week at a time, of the highlights and leave the seriously mundane in the shadows of history.     Monday October 7   Our take off from Williamsburg goes well until about 30 miles in to it, it starts to rain, seriously.   We know this route up Interstate 64 very well so I am not as nervous as I usually am.  Although ...Read more...

LongLongHoneymoon.com | Videos, tips & information for travelers. - Carbon Monoxide Safety

From the site: LongLongHoneymoon.com | Videos, tips & information for travelers. - Carbon Monoxide Safety

Every Airstream or other RV needs to be equipped with a well functioning carbon monoxide detector like the Kidde KOSM-B (http://goo.gl/KVidzj). Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas that causes thousands of deaths each year in North America. Breathing in carbon monoxide is very dangerous. It is the leading cause of poisoning death in the United States. RV campers are especially vulnerable to carbon monoxide exposure. This is the LP gas detector installed in our Airstream. Since it’s over 10 years old, we’ll probably add one of the Kidde duel smoke / CO detectors to supplement this unit. (Click the pic for more info.) The MoHo and Other Traveling Tales - MoHo upgrade and Saving the blog

From the site: The MoHo and Other Traveling Tales - MoHo upgrade and Saving the blog

Home in Rocky Point, Oregon.  Clear and sunny and 37 Degrees F It is a bit amazing to me that after almost six years traveling in the MoHo, we would finally realize that the beautiful leather sofabed was just not to our liking.  When we first bought the rig, it looked oh so luxurious.  We learned how to make down the comfy queen size bed on the first day, and never have used it in the entire six years we have traveled in the rig.  The sofa was pretty comfortable, or so it seemed, but with use we discovered that the pedestal table was a pain to set up every time we opened the slide, and that our little wooden tables, nice as they are, were susceptible to doggy coffee spills, and didn’t work all that well for com ...Read more...

goin' RV Boondocking - Loading Again...

From the site: goin' RV Boondocking - Loading Again...

The new tires are on. 66,900 miles on the old set of Hankook tires. I could have squeezed out a full 70,000 and more if my ambition was sufficient. Not too shabby for a hard used, not diligently maintained set on a dually weighing out at 18,000 lbs gcvw with the rig on give or take. When you consider the heavy duty four wheeling that was included in those miles, it's pretty amazing really. I fully believe, had I taken better care of 'em, those tires rated for 50,000 would have gone 80,000 reliably.  Kind of tells you the benefit of "upgrading" to the 10 ply rated tires don't it. The electric issue has gone "dormant"... so what I can't find I can't fix... and I've got little interest in throwing what few dollars we've got at problems... ...Read more...

Wheeling It - $2 Gourmet Meals, Railroads & Some Apples – Bishop, CA

From the site: Wheeling It - $2 Gourmet Meals, Railroads & Some Apples – Bishop, CA

We’re winding down to our last few days here in the Bishop boonies. I’ve been battling computer issues which means lots of time wasted cursing at my machine and trying to debug nonsensical error messages. The short of the long of it is that it looks like my hard drive is dying and there’s no way I can do much about it until we hit Desert Hot Springs next month. So, I’ve thrown Paul off his computer & spent all day calibrating color and installing all my various programs & scripts on his machine. It’s been a pain in the rear and will have me struggling for a while, but at least I’m still (somewhat) online….bah, humbug! On the brighter side we’ve had an action-packed few days fully befi ...Read more...
