I first read about the Sprinter ”Penthouse” van conversion by Sportsmobile when reporter Larry Edsall wrote about it in The Detroit News in May 2008. “The Penthouse features an electrically powered and reinforced fiberglass top with five vinyl windows to provide light and ventilation,” wrote Edsall. “The electric top can support a roof rack” and when raised offers additional interior height. “The overhead bed features its own reading lights.” Sportsmobile‘s first conversions were for the VW and Ford vans.
